Gestational Diabetes

Hi ladies, I have GD just as I did with my last pregnancy   Im now just under 28 weeks pregnant and im a little confused with my blood sugar readings.. With my last pregnancy I had no worries at all controlling the levels by just watching what i eat and daily exercise, obviously there was the occasional high level if I chose to have that milkshake I was craving but other than that they stayed really good. What has me confused and a bit worried this time is that I eat the same brekky every morning its not the best breakfast as i do suffer from morning sickness still so I have 2 very thin pieces of toast and a cup of tea with 1 sugar (probably less then one sugar as I dont have a full teaspoon) anyway yesterday 2 hours after my breakfast my level was 6.0 which is fine as my limit is 7.0 however today 2 hours after the exact same breakfast my level is 8.8 which is clearly over the limit of 7.0. Do you think this means im not going to be able to control it with just diet like I did last time? What do you think would be the reason for the higher level after the same food? Would love any advice or tips from any one who has or has had GD. thanks so much xx

it's all how your placenta decides to process things. my gd was not as bad with my my first. This time I am on two different meds to control it twice a day.

Thanks for your reply! I wonder if its always worse with each pregnancy? I didnt have it with my first but did with my second and now here again with my 3rd. What medication are you on and where are you? where I am they just get you to inject insulin if you cant control it with diet..

I am taking 1000 mg of metformin twice a day and 2.5 mg of glyburide twice a day. With my daughter I was taking half a glyburide twice a day.
after this kid I need to lose weight. I think for me that has a lot to do with it. And it runs in my family.
They asked me if I wanted to do insulin and I said no.

i have had GD with my first 2 pregnancies and even with the miscarriage that i had, i have always been controlled by insulin and it isn't that bad, this pregnancy i ended up being diagnosed with Type 2 so it is no longer just pregnancy for me, with my first baby i was diagnosed at 30 weeks, given the diet and then within 2 weeks it was known that i needed insulin, with my second i started testing my sugars as soon as i got pregnant and when i seen my dr he was able to see i needed insulin which i started at 10 weeks, it can get wrose with each baby as your weight increases your pancreas doesn't work as good at pumping insulin into your body, it could be that your weight at the start of this pregnancy was higher then the last and also depends on what your fasting sugars were at, i have the diet plan chart for here in Canada and we are not supposed to have sugar at all, splenda or sweetner is ok but not sugar
