Noisy neighbors

posted 15th Nov
I hate that the only regular houses I can afford to rent are ugly and run down, so I decided to rent an upstairs apartment that's gorgeous on the inside but I have annoying neighbors downstairs..
They aren't terrible or anything.. I feel more that they lived down there first and they are older and they think they can make a whole smurf load of noise because it's their house. I feel like every noise I make they can hear & it just sucks!
Well tonight someone is talking loud as smurf and opening the door and slamming it repeatedly..
What would you do?
I mean I'm not the quietest, I do yell at Chloe occasionally and she does run through the house sometimes and in the past I've had some pretty loud BUT BRIEF fights with BD..
They are just continuously blatantly loud!

i vote other. As in talk to them about it yourself. Or if you don't want to do that, management.

But slamming doors in going to do nothing. Very immature and a little passive aggressive. Also, being quiet about will just make you more irritated I would think.

So I'm guessing talking to them is out of the question?

Talk to them about it.

That's really all you can do. Living in an apartment there is always going to be a noisy neighbour, just comes with the package. Sucking it up will just drive you further insane an slamming your doors, you are stooping to their level. Be nice, be direct and just talk to them.

I mean unfortunately, it's a part of living in apartments. Do they do it throughout the night or late into the night? I agree with others, if it's a big problem, talk to them. They may not realize they are being too loud especially if no one has ever told them they are. If it persists after that, call management

neither of your options are an option for me. take it to the building manager and talk with her or go down there and ask them nicely to stop

Sounds like the exact same situation with me, except my neighbor is above me. She's an EMT with the fire department so she works odd hours, but she'll come home at 4am with steel toe boots on and stomp around like it's nothing. She's constantly dropping something, or screaming at her girlfriend. It drives me nuts. Apparently she can't hear much of what I do, we have really high ceilings, but I can hear EVERYTHING. I got to the point where when she's being loud I slam the door, I don't care anymore.

I've asked her plenty of times to just be considerate, ya know? Like, if you're getting off work at 4am, try to be a little quiet. She'll go out clubbing on a wednesday and walk around in hooker heels for like 3 hours before she even leaves the house.

We have an outside main door, and in the hallway, there's an entrance to my apartment and hers, she'll run down her steps, come out her door, slam it, stand in the hallway talking (which basically sounds like she's in my living room), then slam the big door.

DH has a hilarious habit of when she comes down her steps he stands at our door and shakes his ass at it, makes stupid faces and gestures, or like humps the door, I don't know why it's so hilarious but, I crack up laughing every time.

I feel your pain.

But then I feel bad because I'm not the quietest, I'm just different. Like I'm not here hardly at all, so they only have to endure me a few hours of the week, it seems like everytime I'm just trying relax I hear talking and slamming and coughing and snoring

I mean, coughing and snoring is a little much to complain about. That's things people can't help.

There's no manager or building, its a landlord and an old renovated Victorian house which I'm sure adds to the fact I can hear EVERYTHING they do lol

talking, snoring, and coughing are things you can't complain about. I mean, I hear my neighbors talking sometimes if I don't have the TV on or something...or I hear their kids running. But I can't complain about that.

I agree. And OP if you can hear that you must be able to hear their normal voices. Maybe just ask them to mellow out on slamming stuff. It sounds like you have poor insulation between apts.

There is no insulation at all, it's an upstairs of a home and a downstairs.
