Lice
posted 15th Nov
I know I've heard a million and one times that lice doesn't mean you're dirty... BUT why is it that the only people I know that have reoccuring lice infestations are the dirty people? No, I don't mean the greasy dirty haired people, I mean the people with dirty houses....
If it's a myth than why does it happen like that?
I know Chloe could CATCH lice from someone else, but why do some kids have it more than others?

Probably because it isn't cleaned properly, like in the house. Ie sheets, carpets, everything

you have to treat the house, car, kid , EVERYTHING. and a lot of people just treat the head and that's that.

Its possible that after they have lice they continue to use the same brush/pillow case, etc. Many people fail to realize they should get rid of those things.

Probably because the parents of the children don't get rid of the lice and it keeps reoccurring. I had lice 2 or 3 times, when I was in middle school. Every time..I'd get it from someone who stayed the night. My mom would treat my head, comb every single nit and bug out, then treat the sheets/pillow cases/clothes/blankets, everything.

If they have a dirty house they might not be fully cleaning it out of their home. Carpets, sheets, stuffed animals, brushes et cetera.

But lice isn't actually attracted to a filthy house in the first place?

No, they attracted to places they can hide until they find another person/animal to feed off of. If they aren't cleaning properly those lil buggers can live and wait for a new body to get onto.

Nope. They're attracted to.....anything with hair and blood, honestly. They say that children with clean hair are more prone to get lice than dirty hair, because the lice can move around easy and attach easily to clean hair.

I don't know, but my son told me yesterday that a girl in his class has lice again...for the 5th time! So my kids use tea tree oil shampoo. I've heard that protects from lice. So far so good, but after 5 times her parents really should see what the problem is.

I mean, I had reoccurring lice as a kid but, I wasn't dirty, my house wasn't dirty, so that's kind of an unfair statement to make.
My mother and I stripped our house and I got it again, it happens.
You either catch it again from another person or you never really got rid of it in the first place.

One of my bff's started hair spraying the hell out of her daughters hair every time she went to relatives houses because they would pass it to her...it helped a lot.

Yes! I have boys so hairspray isn't usually required for them, but a hair stylist friend told me to put hairspray at the base of their neck to prevent it.

It was my idea because I figured if they can't cling to the hair they would have a harder time...never thought about it but the chemicals prolly help too. lol

Its hard to get rid of sometimes. Dd got it 4 years back from her dads. She had long thick hair. I would treat it with the shampoo & then when i was combing out her hair there would still be live ones We ended up shaving her head because we had such a hard time. After that we've never had any problems with lice again.
