2 CM - 40 weeks 3 days

posted 15th Nov
I forgot to ask my midwife how effaced I was, but I got my first membrane sweep today and since tommorow's friday she wants to wait until Monday to do another one.

im 2 CM dialated and cervix is soft she said. I think she said really soft. I think I got a white piece of mucas plug yesterday but not entirely sure.

I'm frustrated.. how likely is this to work? She said she doesn't think I will need an induction but wants to schedule one for the 24th. What can I expect from the membrane sweep .. and did it work for any of you. What can I do to make this progress w membrane sweep

eta- my back is ina lot of pain like it has been since Tuesday when contractions started but they're off/on, sometimes painful sometimes not. And sometimes they're consistent but sometimes they aren't. I had a few bright pink spots in my underwear too and quite a bit of discharge lately.

The pink could be from her stripping ur membranes. Heavy discharge is normal since the baby is locked and loaded. I had mine stripped twice, the first time i was 2cm and it didnt work. The second time i was 3-4 and went into labor within 48 hours. Try having sex, the semen should help soften the cervix and the contractions may help progress your labor.

Why is she scheduling an induction? Just wait.
My son came 10 days late, when he was nice and ready. Nothing before that worked.

By the 24th OP will be Almost 42 weeks. While I agree babies come when they want to, sometimes they need a little motivation and going past 41-42 weeks can be dangerous

I told her I don't want it. I asked "If we make it for the 24th can I cancel if the time comes and I'm not in labour?"
She said no thats why we're talking about it now.

The reason she chose the 24 is because she said that the OB who does inductions that day is more natural-birth friendly, and the ones are "VERY" medical. I said, can't I technically go a full 14 days overdue? She said that the risk are higher to the baby. I want to tell her at my appt Monday that I only want to schedule an induction if I have a health issue or if baby has a health issue

If she makes it for the 24th, I will be 11 days overdue. She thinks I'll go before that but wants to schedule so I get the better doctor. Can I cancel if the 24th rolls around and I want to wait?

I just want someway to know for sure if this is going to progress but I know it doesnt work like that.. =( I dont know if my MW was just telling me she doesnt think I'll need an induction so I wont stress out or if she really means it.

Due dates aren't exact. Its not dangerous as long as mom and baby are doing well.

Yes you can definitely cancel. They can't force you to induce. Nobody can.

Also don't lose hope even if you're showing no signs. My cervix was shut tight at 9 days overdue around 6pm. My water broke at 2am and I was like 4-5cm. So in 8 hours, while I was relaxing and sleeping, I dilated and my water broke IN BED. I had not felt any contractions or anything. My son was born at 9:30am, 7 1/2 hours after my water broke 10 days over due.
So when it happens it happens it doesn't matter how dilated you are or how many contractions you've had. Just don't get frustrated and give in. I was scheduled to be induced the morning my son was born.
This time I'm having a home birth and I'll never be induced unless medically necessary.

I dont want to be induced unless medically nessecary either. I guess I will schedule with her and cancel if I don't want it and have not gone into labour by the 24. She might get pissed though.

I just really I hope I go before the 24.. because if I DID have to get induced I would have rather chosen that doctor. =( Ill just keep hoping and walking. Im supposed to have a home waterbirth

Research evening primrose oil pills, and red raspberry leaf tea. Also roll your hips around on a yoga ball.

3 times a day. It helps strengthen your uterus. The epo pills are important. You insert them into your vagina and they help soften your cervix.

The tea can in some cases cause contractions. Good luck!!

thanks. =) I wont take the EPO cuz I went to the pharmacy and he told me he advises against it because it can cause issues with baby. I forget what he said but it put me off it.

And i wont insert them because Im GBS +. I dont want to take them orally either. My back is killing me tho im hoping i go into labour today/tommorow . I wonder what risks are greater to baby - being induced at 41 weeks + 4, or the induction itself?

The induction. It makes your contractions more forceful and traumatizes the baby. Also labor usually lasts longer and has a higher chance of ending up in a c section.
