I understand that point of these forums and asking questions etc BUT I also wonder why some are so set against taking advice from trained professionals who do what they do every day and know what they are talking about

Its a matter of opinion even among professionals. One doctor may be fine with inducing you right at 40 weeks or some even sooner, whereas another would let you go as long as it took or you wanted.
So obviously there is no set "right" answer no matter what your own doctor says.
