I'm confused...if she was having a miscarriage it technically wouldn't have been an abortion right?

I guess if the baby still has a heartbeat it is.

If the fetus still had a heartbeat then it would be an abortion, even if it's medically necessary.

So, question?

In Ireland do they not do them for ectopic pregnancies either, or is that different?

Oh okay! I misread it. I thought that she had already miscarried & they wouldn't remove the fetus. I feel stupid.

I think a termination would be legal in those circumstances as it is definitely life threatening.

And this is why I cannot respect the pro-life viewpoint.
Where is the regard for the woman's life? Her family? No fetus is ever as important as a woman. EVER.

from what Ive come to believe from them, they think this kind of scenerio doesn't happen often enough to warrant consideration.

Which is complete bullsmurf. If it happens even once, it warrants consideration.

I've had a few conversations with pro-lifers about ectopic pregnancies over the years. Now 69,000 women in the US every year are diagnosed with ectopic pregnancies, approximately 40 die due to complications. I've been told that those 40 deaths are not enough to warrant keeping abortion legal. It makes me wonder if the realize that the other 68, 960 women are still alive presently due to medical intervention and that should all abortion be made illegal the rate of death due to this one situation would sky-rocket into the tens of thousands.

I just...I can't. I know a girl who had an ectopic pregnancy and had an abortion, but then still maintained that she was pro-life and that her circumstances were "different" and no one should be allowed to have an abortion...like wtf the reason you're alive today is because you had an abortion.

So they really aren't pro life then is what you should have told them ;)

They're not even pro-birth because carrying an ectopic to a viable age and successfully giving birth has happened a grand total of 5 times in written medical history. So that;s like a 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%
chance of a live birth. however without medical intervention there's a 89% chance of internal bleeding and death within minutes without radical medical intervention.

I've heard that before, and also that ectopics don't count because its not a 'real' baby. I'm sorry but if you have a termination at 8 weeks for an ectopic, that;s a perfectly developed 8 week old feotus with a heart beat and everything *gasp*. So if we're not allowed to use frozen embryo's which are waste products from IVF for stem cell research because that's a baby, then you can't have a termination for your ectopic for the same reason because in reality they;ve both got as much potential to be life as each other.

That's another thing. I can't fathom being against stem cell research. Like they're going to be wasted anyway, why not learn something from it?
