Cloth Diapering!! Mama's Please HELP!

posted 15th Nov
Mamas who have cloth diapered - What are the pros & cons. My daughter is 7 weeks old and I never once even considered it until I just received 10 brand new kushie diapers. I know there is more I need like the liners and waterproof covers. I just wanted to know more about it! Thank you!

Pros are that they are cheaper, curer, supposedly better for the environment, healthier for their skin.

Cons are that you have to clean them basically that is all though.

We use Alva baby's, they are really nice and affordable.

I use the pockets all in one's. They're waterproof and you just put however many inserts you need in them. They last from birth to potty and there's no need to mess around with covers. When you wash them you just take the inserts out and chuck it all in the machine. I found about 20 all in ones with 40 liners has been fine, it gives a good amount of time between washes to allow for washing and drying time, I usually wash when I have 5 clean left. I also use washable wipes.

Pros:
- They work out cheaper, once you pay the initial cost of buying them that's it, you probably will make your money back in a few months, especially if you usually buy branded disposables.
- They're better for the environment.
- Even if your skint at the end of the month you will always know your kids butt is covered.
- They're easy to wash and dry quickly.
- Less likely to get a rash, so much better for their skin.
- Children naturally potty train quicker as they can feel they're wet more than disposables, so will want to use the potty rather than feeling wet.
- They've been shown to be better for hip development.
- They are adjustable and can bit fitted from birth to potty if you get the all in ones.
- When they are on solids and poop becomes solid you can get flushable liners that keep the poop from sticking to them, so you just take it off and flush, if it's only wet you can wash them a few times before the liners disintegrate.

Cons:

- A little rise in water bill, although you save more by not using disposables.
- You have to be prepared to get your hands dirty, pulling out the inserts of a poopy nappy (diaper) isn't for everyone, although you can just use gloves.
- You do have to get special non - chemical , non- bio detergent but it works out cheaper than disposables.
