re: EBF?

I don't see how that's something to be excited about.... Your child never having solids before 16 months? A key part of development is that sensory or taste, texture, and feeling it.. Learning to feed themselves which should be established long before then. Don't get me wrong, I won't knock anyone's beliefs... But I don't think such a thing is something to strive for and if that is what being EBF means, I want no part of it.

Fortunately I've never heard of that. I would say I EBF'd until my daughter was 22 months old (I was shooting for 12, but then her dad left and I didn't want to take that away too). However, by that I mean that we introduced solids at 6 months, and she ate properly like she should; but I never used formula or milk until she was weaned over a year later.

I disagree and don't think it is important for development. They get sensory input from other sources.

i think people that ebf and wait until 12 months to introduce solids would be considered ebf with delayed solids.

(i.e. you spilled what you pumped, so it's a situation where you might need to use formula), like once or twice a month."</blockquote>

See I feel like if you spilled what you pumped, just nurse. I don't think exclusively breastfed can include any formula at all. The baby isn't getting EXCLUSIVELY breastmilk.

i agree. It is what it is, withoy exception. i just don't understand why people beat themselves up for the title. I mean.... So you gave your kid formula a couple times... Whoop de do... Its not a big deal if your child isn't exclusively breastfed. I guess I don't understand. I'm mainly wondering about the solid food aspect.

I EBF for 11 months.. (He had solids when people would sneak him a bite or two when we were visiting :/- maybe a couple times a month)

12+ months I think they mean mainly breastfed, maybe no cups of liquid. Sometimes people slowly introduce solids starting at 12 months. So IMO that wouldn't be exclusively breastfed.
DS is now 14 months and he eats 2-3 times a day, 2 meals and a snack or three meals and the rest nursing. Still about 9 times a day.

MY was EBF for a long time, still mostly at 12 months. But now I have started giving him snacks that are solid and he likes them. For me I think solids should not be started until 6 months.. then after 6 months it depends on the LO. Mine did not do well with them when we tried at 6 months...but now his body can handle it. I think all people are diffrent for when they can handle solids

You can't when you have to work. There isn't really an alternative aside from the baby not eating anything.

For me and my beliefs I feel like that crap is poison! Other people can do what they want but I would never put that in my LO. I guess my SO had a talk with someone because that nurse came and apologized

Formula is poison? what about those poor mothers who just can't breastfeed, they never get their milk in? they had breast cancer and had to have a mastectomy?

To say that is just stupid and ignorant, i agree breast is best, but some woman just can't provide it for their babies and i hate how they are made to feel bad for it.

like over 90 percent of mothers can but the hospitals get kickbacks. lots of people fail new mothers all the time. so thinks formula is child abuse and we should have milk to give all mothers who cant breastfeed. like banks in all cities.

Breastmilk banks are a great idea!
