Is his pedi crazy?

posted 15th Nov
DS had a check up today to monitor his acid reflux and to see how his asthma is doing. The zantac is helping but not a whole lot. His pedi told me to put a teaspoon of cereal in a bottle 2/3 times a day. Problem......DS is EBF and refuses a bottle so his pedi told me to try and spoon feed him 2 teaspoons of rice cereal or oatmeal 2/3 times a day.

I don't know how I feel about that. I know cereal in a bottle can help with reflux but to attempt to spoon feed a 12 week old baby sounds bat smurf crazy to me.

Any opinions????

I had to add cereal to the bottle for minime. It helped a lot. and she SLEPT omg did she sleep lol It's not crazy just be sure to thin it out with formula so it's more of a stew consistency, not thick enough to choke on, but not watery enough to choke on.

I had to do it and it worked well my son had no problems with it but something to try first is ask your doctor about prevacid works much better than zantac and then also pic up some probotics at the grocery store for kids an on-call doctor mentioned it to me when my son had issues with reflux and it's an all natural powder that can also be found in yogurt and you add it to breastmilk or formula or even a small bit of food and give it to him that worked better then any of the meds he had been on and with in two months he was off all his meds andd hasn't had any issues sense.

My dd did ok with a spoon at 12 wks. It doesn't hurt to try a tiny amount to see how he will do. He might make the gag face at first if he's not use to it. Worse case he still has that tongue reflux and will spit the food out. Something that helped my DDs reflux was to keep her upright for an hr after eating..have you tried that yet?

My friends son had/has acid reflux and she was told from 3 weeks to put one formula scoop of cereal in his bottle. It didnt' do a thing. He was switched to soy and still was told to add the cereal. Still didn't' help much. he spit up maybe 5% less than with out it. Her pedi also had her give him yogurt at 4 weeks. I think that is just crazy. Something about the enzimes in it...idk didnt' seem to help.
you can try it if you want and see if it helps. just make it really runny

Spoon feeding is alot safer than in a bottle. Cereal should never go in a bottle, I dont care if a doctor told you to do it, they arent always right and it is a choking hazard.

It's very common for doctors to say that and for a lot of kids it helps. ( my son was the same way as well as my daughter)

Also my LO was on zantac and rice cereal for reflux, she had it bad, she took the spoon feeding fine and it really helped with her reflux too. Good luck!

DS has never used a bottle, he is strictly breastfed so no bottles or formula what so ever.

She said baby is EBF so the doctor recommended spoon feeding it 2-3 times a day.

Op, If you don't think spoon feeding him will work, then I would just stick with the Zantac.

Spoon feeding is safer than bottlefeeding.

Cereal in a bottle is a choking hazard, spoon feeding is the right way.
