What does everyone think about what is happening in Israel right now?

I think this has been a long time coming and that it could be the start of WWIII. I think as long as these 2 nations/peoples exist there will be conflict. Each sees themselves as the one defending themselves and their sacred spot. As far as US involvment, of course we will support Israel considering it was Muslim terriorists that attacked us and that we have along standing aggreement with them. But I'd hate to see us get over involved and try to solve this issue for them, this is something we can't fix IMO

I don't know a lot about what's going on so maybe someone can tell me - why are we(the US) supporting Israel? My DH says that Palestine is fighting for their land because the Israelis just marched right in and settled there. Is that true? Also, do they both have nuclear weapons or just Israel?

I find it absolutely ridiculous that we stand by and watch the Israelis bomb the smurf out of Palestine and the gaza strip, and now they're mad because Palestine are fighting back?

I believe we have an agreement to protect them. The Gaza Strip is what is being fought over and both feel they can lay claim to it. Israel has been building settlements there for a few years and there was a peace agreement that has been constantly violated by both sides killing each other because it is the site of their religions most sacred place.

I totally agree with this. And it's not Israel's land. They just took it from Palestine. OF COURSE Palestine wants it back. If your neighbor came and moved themselves into your house, you'd fight to get it back too.

No. That is not true. It is far too complicated to summarize on BG, but there is a long history of violent conflict in the area.
I used to be more pro-palestinian but have since switched to being more pro-israel due to the atrocities committed by the palestinians. I find it hard to sympathize and support a people who support suicide bombs on buses and pizza parlors AND i cannot support a people who vote a terrorist organization (Hamas) as the government.

wasn't Israel given the land in some sort of agreement in 1967?

What about atrocities by the Israelis? And it's highly unlikely that the vote is even democratic there, so the majority of people probably don't want to be run by a terrorist organisation.. think Afghanistan,

I think so. I always was under the impression that Britain gave it to them. IDK how true that is though. I learned it a long time ago.

there's no question that they are each killing each other and it's terrible. BUT we agreed to protect Israel and we support them because they're supposed to be helping in "the war on terror" to kill the terrorists

Same here. I was reading some of the comments on the site and am amazed at what some people are taught as far who the people are and are not.
