CPS and BBD...

posted 15th Nov
Hi there, I'm Jessie. My little girl, Kenzie, was born at 36 weeks and 6 days and since then she has had my heart in her oh-so-perfect hands.

Our story is not a happy one, nor is it an easy one, so I guess I'll start at the beginning.

Kenzie was born via emergency c-section at 36 weeks and 6 days and spent 5 days in the NICU, hooked up to breathing machines, a heater, a fetal heart monitor and various other machines. She had been trying to escape for 5 months , and I was in active labor for 3 months. She was taken out at 1:32 AM because of fetal heart distress and fluid in her lungs.

When we brought her home we noticed she bruised easily and about 1 month we found out she had a broken clavicle which was labeled as a "birth injury" and her easy bruising was due to "sensitive skin".

This is where the story gets hard.. I took my little girl to the hospital on Oct 25th necause she wasn't moving her left arm and it was swollen. Immediately, they took her in and did xrays on her and found out her humerus was fractured. They automatically accused my husband and I and ook her for more xrays and her ribs had healing fracures.

CPS took her away from us, and are refusing to do testing for BBD (brittle bone disease).

The reason I'm posting here is because I believe my daughter has BBD. She bruises easily, she has unexplained fractures, she has delayed growth, the whites of her eyes aren't completely white, she was premature and she didnt move much in the womb.

I know there are two labour-intensive tests, and they are only 85% accurate but I'm hoping and praying that CPS goes through with the tests.

Are there any mommies out there who have had their l/os diagnosed with BBD? If so, how did the Drs determine it?

I'm sorry you're going through this. I really don't know what to say, I've never been in this situation but I think it's probably best you get a lawyer? Good luck.

I am so sorry that you have to go through that. I don't have any advice to give you, but I would look into getting some legal advice. I wish you all the luck during this difficult time.

From what I understand, it is very expensive to diagnose when the child is so young. But if your child has been taken, she is covered under Medicaid while she is in the care of the Fostering family. I would contact her Pedi and also your liaison worker and see if they can get together and run some tests on her and maybe get this diagnosed.

Has your pedi commented about the bruising?
Is there anything from the hospital with this informal diagnosis they gave you?

I have a lawyer, she is the most amazing lawyer I could have ever asked for. She's court appointed and unlike most actually cares about my case.

I've always been a SAHM, so no one but myself, my husband and our family has watched our daughter.

And right now she is with my mom, and her pedi has said her bruising is due to sensitive skin.
