Do genetics play a role in labor?

How much did your pregnancy/delivery relate to your mother of grandmother's? I'm just curious how big of a role it plays

My mom only had one vaginal delivery and my children's births were nothing like my brother's.

I really don't believe so. I had two 4 hr labors and one over 12 hr labor.

My mother had really long 2 & 3 day labors and my grandmothers like wise.

To add they all had pretty good pregnancies...mine were HORRID...

So far my pregnancy has been exactly like my grandmothers! And my mothers was exactly like her grandmothers.

I'm not so sure about labor though because I haven't gotten that far yet lol!
But it's a little scary how alike they are.

My grandmother had a boy -- I'm having a boy -- she only gained 25lbs, I've only gained 25 lbs, she didn't have Gdiabetes, I didn't have Gdiabetes, she was never sore, I'm never sore, etc etc.

My mothers grandmother had a girl, and she had a girl. They both delivered 8 weeks early. They both ended up getting Gestational diabetes in other pregnancies. They were both always swollen, they both developed HBP during pregnancy, etc.

It's CRAZY!

I think with the way labor varies from pregnancy to pregnancy there is no way it can have anything to do with genetics.

My mom was in labor with me for 3 days, and in labor with my brother for 5 hours lol.

I was in labor for 12 hours.

I have no idea about my grandmother, but my mother had to have 2 c-sections... I had three vaginal births that all went pretty fast.

Not one bit. My mother gave birth to 3 babies au naturale and in less time than what I did.

I believe genetics have something to do with baby's size though!! All three of us were huge babies and so far my babies are too :/

It has nothing to do withgenetics. However, my mom had fast labors (longest being 4.5 hours) and I had a fast labor (5 hours) with DD

My pregnancy has been exactly like my grandma's and my labor symptoms have seemed close to my moms

Not related at all my mom was in labor with me for 3 days and pushed for 3 hrs and with my brother she was in labor for 6-8 hrs he came quick.

I was in labor for 30+ hrs but I was induced pushing was a pain but I only pushed for an hr.

I think in certain aspects genetics can have an influence. My mum had a dysfunctional labor with me and I never went into labor with my first, and had dysfunctional labor with my second. My doctor has hinted it might be genetic in my case.

As w/ everything pregnancy related, it ultimately depends on the woman. My mom had 2 c-sections & my grandma had 9 kids vaginally. 3 of her daughters had their kids vaginally & all of them including my grandma said L&D were excruciating. My mom was the only one who couldn't have hers vaginally & her labor was more uncomfortable than painful. I was able to have my LO vaginally & I had labor like my mom. Just more uncomfortable than painful. Everyone is different.

Yeah. The actual labor and pregnancy doesn't have ANYTHING to do with genetics other than the fact that you could have some good genes from your mom like some women have wider hips making it easier to push, etc, but it's not related at all, just coincidence!
