Breastfeeding a biter! Help!!!

So my little girl is 7 months old and she is EBF. She got her first 2 teeth at a little over 5 months old. She is a horrible biter! I have talked with my LC and I have been doing what she tells me to do... take her off the breast and tell her firmly without smiling or yelling "we don't bite mommy", then place her back on the breast. If she does it again to do the same but set her down by my feet for a minute. None of this works! She just smiles and goes on. She is progressively biting harder and longer. She actually bit me last night and left 2 small cuts on the bottom of my nipple. They bled for awhile and finally stopped. She then did the same thing to the other nipple this morning. I am so sore now that it is extremely painful to let her nurse and on top of that she continues to bite! Anyone experience this and have any advice that has worked for you??

She apparently slapped me upside the head and I never did it again LOL I seriously doubt that would work normally though and I def don't condone slapping newborns XD Maybe one of those fake suction cup nipples to cover your own so she's less likely to hurt you as badly?

wow just thinking of that hurts. id use a pump n make her drink from a bottle once she got teeth, that sounds way to painful for me id be scared to let her breastfeed once she bit me

its a nipple sheild and they really dont recommend them in less u have problems latching i could use them for my one boob but have not bought one in 5 months i just go with her flow lol.

In my experience, this sortof stuff always happens when they're either getting new teeth or have just gotten teeth. My middle baby was a biter for sure. Yes I admit i whacked his cheek the first time he bit me and I bled. I felt horrible about it. He was fine. I bawled. lol Anyway, that stopped him for a while. What worked best was taking the boob away for a while and feeding them less often. As they get older, they aren't always as focused as they should be. If they aren't really hungry, they think about things like 'Oh boy, wouldn't it be fun to see how loud i can make Mommy cry!' I would take her off your boob for more than a minute. I normally wait until they start crying. That sounds mean, but you need to make sure they get the point.

In the meantime, i would invest in some of those nipple shields until you heal up and invest in lanisoh lanolin cream. Ouch!

DS was a biter to. i would flick him and yell oww then set him down and walk away for a few min. he stopped biting

My son is a biter, too.

The only thing that sort of works for me is to sit there and watch him the entire time he's on the boob, with my hand holding the boob and as soon as he unlatches his tongue, I pull him off. Yes, it's extremely obnoxious because I can't do anything else while I'm BFing, but that's the only way I can keep him from biting me.

ya i am getting really frustrated   I really enjoy nursing and of couse my LC says oh its just a phase but thats easy for her to say when its not her being bitten repeatedly! I have never tried a nipple shield. I have been pumping because we are going to be taking a long trip next week and i always take pumped milk to give her bottles while we are out and she as always taken them fine but i tried to give her a bottle twice in the last week and she trows herself backwards and starts screaming. Its the same bottles she used to take. In fact it took like 7 different types of bottles before she would take this kind(playtex drop ins, with latex nipples only) but now she wont take those either. I don't want to have to wean her and i don't want to smack her because I don't think she would understand but I am going to have to do something! This is crazy and she has been doing it for over a month now

It really sounds like she's teething again. I wouldn't recommend smacking her either for the record.   My issue was more of a knee-jerk reaction. 'Ow that hurts' and 'Get that thing off my boob!' 'Oh wait.. it's a baby.. i'm a horrible person.' After that i learned how to channel my pain better. lol   I actually think reacting calmer to it helped it be less of an issue the second time around, or my middle baby could have just been a vampire.

I know that she is teething but i cannot get her to stop biting me. Both my nipples are all scabbed and super sore and it has been this way for over a month! If it doesn't stop I will probably start to wean her because I cannot do this permanently. She is working on 4 more teeth but ever since the first 2 came in she thinks it is great fun to bite. Like I said my LC says its just a phase and she will stop but to me this is a really long phase
