re: Wine?

I'm on Lovenox.. so I don't know how alcohol would be taking that as well... My first OB said no! But my new OB never said anything about drinking just a 1/4 a cup...

I've had a glass of wine here and there. I did with DD1 too. There's no harm in it

Am I the only one who thinks it's sad you can't give up having an alcoholic drink for 9 mths for your own childs sake. I think there are bigger issues you need to deal with if you must have a drink & risk your childs health.

It's not risking anything so your point is moot. Do some freaking research.

I've been drinking the sparkling juice also. & of course I was at my cousin's bday party last weekend and one of his friends was offering everyone drinks and he offered to buy me a glass of wine because he knew I was pregnant. I was like no, thank you. Even though I wanted to say yes but I just get overly paranoid. I don't take any medications at all except my prenatal vitamins, not even Tums for nausea and heartburn.

I haven't heard of it being measured in units   How much is a unit typically?

Its a measurement we use over here to determinate the strength and alcohol content of alcohol. 10 mililitres of pure alcohol is one unit, typically a small glass of wine is about 2 units, so 20 millilitres of pure alcohol within that glass.
Here's what our recommendations are:
  • Men should drink no more than 21 units of alcohol per week, no more than four units in any one day, and have at least two alcohol-free days a week.
  • Women should drink no more than 14 units of alcohol per week, no more than three units in any one day, and have at least two alcohol-free days a week.

For pregnant women they used to recommend a maximum of 1-2 units once or twice a week, but studies have been released this week showing the effect of even moderate drinking, which is 1-6 units a week, can have an affect on a child's IQ. Like I said the study is completely new and it is unsure whether it will change guidelines over here, so we'll just have to see!

Hmmm, I don't think wanting to have a 1/4 of glass of wine makes me have issues... nor do I want to risk my child's life... I just wanted to try this new wine that just came out...

Thank you! I think I will just wait until he is born. It's not worth risking his life, I will just stick to my sparkling juice.

how many weeks are you ...you could just buy the wine since wine can stay good for quite some time and just wait until your done with your pregnancy ...you wouldnt want to risk anything to happen to your baby bcuz u never know..

I'm the same way, I read everything about the meds I have to take before taking them. Even though Lovenox was a no question, I still researched it.

Actually most drs will say red wine (1 glass, once a week) is okay, even helpful because of the benefits it has for your child. It's a shame that your 1 post is probably about to get you jumped on due to your ignorance.

To OP:
http://www.buzzle.com/articles/drinking-red-wine-while-pregnant.html

I looked it up earlier too cause I had heard the same thing. I have a history of early contractions, so that's what caught my eye. I didn't know the other effects were true either.
