OP: No, not rude at all. I don't need a ton of things next time around, we don't have a ton of space so I know that cute little swing my mom has her eye on is nice, but it will just take up more space since I already have two as it is and I need a new bumbo seat instead! I'll be letting her know that and in the end, I know she won't be offended because I know my mom would rather help out than buy random useless stuff.

I just had my baby shower, and everyone actually gave me the gift receipt along with the present. But I would say.. even though I am breastfeeding.. I will be going back to work so obviously will need some bottles for the breast pump. There may be times that my husband will want to feed our son... granted, i dont plan on plopping a bottle in his mouth anytime soon.

The one thing that I absolutely did not want and thank God I didnt get any.. were pacifiers .. i never used them with my other 3 kids and dont plan on now.. (slight area of disagreement between my husband and I but I didnt find them necessary at all). The one thing my husband is adamant on is no monkey clothes.. he's very racially sensitive, and thank God again no one got us anythng with monkeys on it but I had made it known to my closest friends that this was not gonna fly before hand but that's definitely a touchy area.

I'm sorry but that's hillarious. Lot's of people call their kids little monkeys. It's because they're kids and act like monkeys, not because of race. your husband is nuts! I looove dressing my son in monkey outfits  

i don't think it would be rude.i would rather know what to get someone rather than get something they won't use.just put a little note in the invite saying you won't be needing diaper and bottles.

But you are not black so you dont understand.. I can think of at least two movies we have seen in the last 6months that have referred to black people as monkeys.. I cringe every time i hear it.. so i can only imagine how I would feel if someone referred to my son as a monkey, whether they meant it or not.. In the back of my mind i would really wonder how they meant it.. especially if they were white.

I call my LO my little jumping bean and Im mexican but I never mean it in a racial way or even thought of it like that!
My DH is white and calls her that too but I know with out a doubt its nothing racial.

No, not rude. I told my guest i didnt want bottles or binkies because i was EBF. No one was upset   I really didnt think it was a big deal, no one use my registry which also was ok with.

I just think it's funny because it's completely out there. Like wayyyyyy out there. I mean maybe if it was something more obscure, but pretty much everyone refers to all little kids as monkeys. They don't make monkey clothes to make fun of black people they make them because they're cute.

I think it's a little silly too. Although DH and I were shopping for my friends baby's 1st birthday and i picked out a shirt with monkeys on it and he was like, "babe the kid is mixed you can't get him monkey clothes." I was like uhhh why??? I didn't even get it.

I think it would be rude to say "I only want this brand name clothes" or something like that, but I don't think it's rude to give people a head's up and say "Don't waste your money buying me disposable diapers I'm not going to use." If I were going to your shower and bought you diapers, I would be embarrassed when I found out you were cloth diapering. I think it's actually the POLITE thing to do! haha. Why would someone want to waste their money buying you something you have no use for? Yeah, you could exchange them or give them away, but that takes all of the thought out of my gift to you.

Dang! I'm so FAR from racist I call ALL kids monkey! I just called a black kid at church a "silly little monkey boy" a few weeks ago. He was being goofy. Acting like a monkey. I didn't even come close to thinking of it that way.
