Epidural??
posted 15th Nov
So I go to the hospital on Tuesday to get preregistered. Since it's getting close, figured I might as well get that out of the way. But everyone keeps asking me if I am going to get the epidural or not. I just say i don't know, cause honestly i don't know because this is my first pregnancy so this is all new to me.
I was hoping maybe someone that has experienced natural birth and with an epidural could tell me what they would suggest.
Please and thank you (:

Epidural unless you can deal with some intense pain.

Just don't stress on it right now.
Trust me, you'll be able to choose once the time comes
I got one. It wasn't bad at all. But I got spinal headaches after which sucked ass.

Just go in with an open mind. It's there if you need it. With my first, I had said I wasn't going to get it. But my water broke and my contractions were strong from the get go and I just couldn't handle it. I'm going to try again this time though.

I knew from the beginning that I was going to get an epidural. I'm a serious pansy when it comes to pain. My contractions before I was even admitted to the hospital were bringing me to tears. I don't know how the natural birth women do it.

Thank you all for your suggestions and advice.
I told my mom that i was just going to see how it goes before i make a final decision on getting one or not.

Don't be closed minded about it . You will never know what you want untill you are in the situation . I had the epidural however i had been in labor for 27 hours at that point and another 10 hours after I got it . I went it thinking nope no epidural but it was the best thing I had becuase I didn't expect to have a 37 hour labor and by the time I got to pushing I wouldn't have been able to because I would have been to exhausted without the epi !

I've had it every which way.. I had my first natural, I thought it was tolerable. But my second was induced, and being induced makes contractions come harder and faster. I wanted the epidural, but the anesthesiologist was in surgery. I went without it, so i know it can be done, but I didn't want to in the moment. with #3 I had the epidural, and it was wonderful. I felt nothing and was able to sleep through the night until it was time to push. with #4 they didn't get it to me in time and were only able to get me the "walking epidural" where I still felt pretty much everything and had total control of my legs (I didnt before). I dont think it was worth getting the shot this time.
either way it is your decision. When I started out I was pro-natural birth, and thought people who chose epidurals were wimps... until I needed one. Now I don't judge anyone who gets the epidural. I am glad I was able to have my natural experiences, just so I can say I experienced it.. but if your epidural can turn out like mine did with #3 I say get the drugs! lol good luck

My hospital has you meet and sign all the paper for an epidural, but makes it clear that when the time comes, it's up to you. Having the paper work out of the way is helpful just in case.
I personally had an epidural. I didn't get it until I was 9 1/2cm, but don't regret it b/c I don't think I could have handled being sewn up with out it.

I went without with both my boys. I will be doing natural again this time for sure.

Didn't know that. I also only thought I was about 7cm when I got it, they didn't want to check me until after I got it even though I kept asking them to check. I'll probably get it again though.
