Totally your call. You have to remember, if she's a talker, be prepared to explain to people what she's talking about. I ended up taking the kids around the store, DH had a separate cart... then I did a layaway while he distracted them. This way we don't have to try to make cover stories and then next year/years to come they might wonder why its different.

That's a good idea. Maybe I'll let her pick some stuff out then have SO take her somewhere while I put the stuff on layaway.

What do I tell her though? lol

We had the 2nd cart always at the end of the aisle/out of site. Our boys are 4 and 2 and too smart! We made it into a game. The boys would pick something out, and whichever one of us would set it on the ground and keep walking if we agreed with it- then the other one of us would yes or no it and put it in the cart.... lol. Before we did the layaway, we both eyed the cart over to make sure.

This!! And is all about making it special for them. Even figuring out a way to not make it fishy. Teamwork!

No, because the other cart was never in their site.

I would recommend go to the store and just looking with him/her and like make a small list of what she/he pointed out and wanted then go back and get it. When I was little my mom would tell me it's list day and we would sit on the couch and I would tell her what I wanted. She would write it down. Sometime we had to look through magazines. Then she would take it to 'Santa'. You can also give him/her magazines and let him circle stuff.
