Giving birth in Perth

posted 15th Nov
Hie all, Hubby and I are moving to Perth just after christmas and I know nothing about the health system over there, as in which are the good hospitals to give birth in. So any tips? Recent personal experience? I am preferring a water birth but understand that it is not as common in the West. What about the family birth centre at King Edward's Memorial? First baby and have a bit of a fear of hospitals so really want this to be a positive experience! Thanks!

Im from Perth. You can have water births at the birthing centre at king eddie. I have never been there but it can be a hard hospital to get into as its the high risk hospital here

Can you have water births in aus?

I requested this in 2009 and was told when I wa ready to push to get out of the water because it wasn't legal yet to have a water birth in a hospital.

I'm in nsw though as well. The states have differing laws.

I would think only a private hospital would do a water birth an then unless you have a lot of cash u would need private health insurance.

I think any general hospital will at least let you labour in a bath if they have them available.

I went private. Absolutely fantastic.

Very few hospital across the country allow it. Mine didn't either and now you aren't allowed to use the tub at all. In the City (Adelaide) I think there is only 3 hospital that allow water births and they are hard to get into with strict rules on where you live etc

And I would think seeing as she is moving here an already pregnant she would miss out on one of those spots.

Op, I would have a plan b other than a water birth in a hospital
