evil eye ?

what does it mean when you give a baby the evil eye ?

It can me a few different things. Im Puerto Rican and I was always told its like when someone wants to touch something *usually a baby* and they dont the evil eye will get the baby because someone else wanted it so bad. My dad and mom swear that my brother had it, he rubbed a cold egg on my brother, said prayers over it, put it in a glass of cold water and it boiled O.O

It's a ridiculous Mexican old wives tale. Supposedly if you look at a baby but don't touch it, the baby will get very sick/die.
