My first time I had no idea what I needed or wanted. There were a lot of things I didn't know I could take or knew I needed. I have a much better idea this time.
-Unless you want to wear their hospital gowns, bring some comfy outfits.
-Bras (nursing or sports)
-pillow (for your head and/or belly - you don't automatically sleep like you used to)
-boppy pillow if you're nursing
-shower stuff, make-up, hair dryer, chapstick, glasses and/or contacts (forgot my contacts last time)
-your SO might want more than just one change of clothes unless he's going home in between (and shower stuff for him unless he's going home)
-nice COMFY outfit to go home in
-when I had my son all they had for outfits for him was a shirt. This time I have packed about 6-7 outfits ranging between newborn to 0-3m. He will be dressed this time in the hospital.
-any meds/vitamins that you're taking
-camera/phone/video camera (with cords/chargers)
-baby book (if you want to write down anything or get baby's prints)
-baby name book (just in case you don't have a name or don't like it once you see him)
-extra long pads
-socks/slippers
-snacks for SO
-cash for vending machines, etc.
-blanket(s), snowsuit/coat (whatever he'll be wearing outside), scratch mittens, diapers, hats, car seat, socks, burp rag, wipes, etc. (I'd pack a diaper bag just in case you have to stop at a drug store on way home.)
*replace he with she if applies
This is the jist of my list. Hope it helps! Good luck!

You can't take your own meds in the hospital, they have to come from pharmacy. They have pads. Baby clothes in the hospital are unnecessary, and a pain for the nurses. When they get peed and pooped on, they'll sit in your room for two days until you get home to wash them. Hospital also had pillows, and delivery is a messy business. I wouldn't want mine there.

Well ok then. Glad I didn't help.

I wasn't trying to be rude, and you had other great suggestions. But, people usually regret bringing so much. And, moms generally regret using their own baby clothes and blankets when they get meconium/pee on them in the hospital.

I used everything I took!! I didn't bring all the stuff in until after I was to my room (after baby was born). My son had pooped all over his one outfit BAAAAAAD and we soaked it and then washed it with baby soap they had. No stain. And no more poop throughs... Obviously everything is up to each person.

A few comfortable outfits for yourself ( You never know what complications may occur and how long you will actually be staying at the hospital)
A Bra that is bigger than your breasts are now ( your breasts will swell like crazy !! And you will definately need a comfortable bra because they will hurt)
Toiletries ( Soap Shampoo Conditioner ETC )
Witch Hazel ( I used this on the overnight pads to soothe your area after you have the baby , it helps tremendously with soreness and swelling)
