re: Technology vs Old School

Quoting Coupon Lady:" True. I live off of my technology gadgets all day long when my kiddos are in school. lol and when ... [snip!] ... parent involved in every inch of their lives lol No matter what. lol I know some lazy parents, and I dont get it at all. lol"

I dont get it either. Then again I learned my lesson with my son. I was young and dumb and though I was the smurf and knew it all. My son suffered for it when it came to learning and school. I felt horrible. So 8 years later when I had my first daughter, Damn right I sand ABC the moment she came out. I showed her colors etc!! I did it all myself. Now with my 13 month old I am doing the same. I am far against technology obviously LOL..just dont let it teach and raise your (in general) children

I think there should be a balance.
Kids do need to learn technology, as it is becoming the way of the present & future,

But "old-fashioned" life skills and communication should not be lost.
If you or your kids do not how to dial a phone call, use a fax, address a letter, do research using books and not google, use a filing system, hold a face to face conversation, or perform any type of task, errand, or bill-paying without the internet or other gadget, then I feel that is a problem, and very unbalanced.

Even with all the technology we have now, basic life skills should not fall by the wayside. Many jobs & offices will require "old-fashioned" skills. I work at home and am required to use such old fashioned things such as a landline telephone, fax machine, and keep files, etc. Last time I worked in an office we had young adults who could not perform basic functions, such as answering a business landline and transferring the call to another dept.

I am going to get a smartphone as a holiday present to myself, I think it will be fun. I love the internet, but still use the old fashioned landline phone, and have a cheap emergency cell. I dont want to be connected to the world 24-7, though.
