in a crib, and how old?

posted 14th Nov
so... this frustrates myself to even say, because i used to be an avid believer in as soon as they get on a regular sleeping 100% thru the night pattern to let them sleep in a toddler bed, well that was with my first LO. and at 13months she knew how to open doors, so we changed her to a toddler bed, plus she already knew how to put 2 and 3 words together to say what she wanted.

my 2nd LO, well, she will be 2 in February. and i have her still in a crib, she doesn't try to climb out at all, she actually seems quite content still sleeping in it, and the crib i have i only have to take the tall side down, and replace with the toddler rail that came with it....
but she doesn't know how to open doors, so when she gets up i know she won't come to get us like my 1st did. and my husband is 1/2 the time on strong meds due to a work injury that has him disabled now. so i'm scared he won't hear her moving around in the room (kiddos tend to be quiet when they get sneaky/curious, if you know what i mean)....

so now realizing that of course all kids are truely different, i still haven't been ready and felt like she herself was ready to change to a toddler bed... am i crazy? when did yours change over to a toddler bed?

My daughter went into a toddler bed aty just over 2 I think. My son is 18 months and I see no reason to switch it.

Personally I figure if they're happy and aren't climbing out, there's no reason to switch them. Though I put up baby gates at the doorway just in case they wake up, so they're safe.

I switched DD a little after a year but only because she was trying to climb out. If I could've I would have left her longer.

My mom said she tried to keep us in the crib closer to 3 years old.

My son has slept through the night since he was 4 months old without being "put to sleep" and now he's 19 months old and there is no way we could put him in a toddler bed. We tried after the first few times he got his leg stuck trying to climb out of his crib and he spent 10 hours climbing back out of bed, unable to stand he was so tired, dragging himself along the floor, but refused to just stay in the bed and go to sleep. I imagine he will be in a crib until he's past 2 because he won't sleep unless he's forced to and if he knows he can get out, he will. That was the longest night of my life and I have no intention of trying it again for as long as possible.

I think you should just keep her in a crib until she starts trying to climb out.

the score is split down the middle... lol...

it just has me feeling like i should have already swapped her bc, like i said my first was 13months.. she was so determined to be with us, that just randomly at 7am i'd hear my door creak open, and she'd be rubbing her eyes and coming to get me, but i eventually got her to get into a pattern of she would come snuggle with me and we would continue to sleep in till after 10 or 11am!! lol.. my 2nd LO that is still in the crib she's not really a sleep snuggler, once she's awake she just wants to play, lol.. also she's more of the curious type so if she had free roam of any where she would be into everything!

I think people rush moving them on to other options before it's even remotely necessary. If she's comfy and you're comfy, let it be. She'll let you know when she's ready. It's not like she's locked away in it and you can't hear her.
