Crochet mamas! I need HELP!

So I am desperately trying to make a beanie for my little cinnabun....and I've got the basic stitches down and have a good gauge. I'm doing WONDERFULLY on my blanket but both attempts at a beanie come out with a wavy lumpy circle that refuses to curl.

What the hell am I doing wrong!? Is there something wrong with the pattern? Is there any common mistakes I might be making that I can fix? Any advice would be golden. I really wanted to have a matching beanie/blanket set to bring her home in.

They both look like that and I only have the last two rounds to make.

i had this trouble in the first couple of hats i made too... i realized i somehow added an extra stitch here and there even though i could swear i did exactly what the pattern said. Try following a youtube tutorial instead, it helped me, i was about to give up

It kinda evens out once you start going more. It doesn't look bad when on the head. I hardly ever stick to patterns and a lot of times they look like that at the beginning, but even out as you go.
