Exactly, when Marcus was born we had to go on assistance because hubs lost his job, we were already pay check to pay check with no savings, heavily in debt and bam his job was gone. That's one thing that saved us, the free health cover.. All of his specialists, surgeries, exams, X-rays, mris, etc.. Covered. Only thing we struggled with for him was his medications which cost us $200 each and he had six of them. Smurf happens.. But we are way way better off now.

There is a big difference you are right. At least being pay check to pay check you can afford basic needs. Luxuries are more expensive than needs and most people don't realise this.

Yes if you can't feed your kids then you shouldn't have more. I went hungry as a child so I feel very strongly about this.

Funny this should come up, I just finished having a long 3 hour talk with a 92 year old woman. She told me it's sad the way people focus so much on "stuff" these days instead of people and love. She said she was poor in terms of money but they always had a home, food and clothing and they always had each other. She said at the end of life all you have left are the memories and Hearse don't pull uhauls. It's up to each person what memories they want to have in their older years. If you would rather be left with memories of fancy vacations/cars and fat bank accounts, then so be it but for her and for me, I would rather memories of a happy family. People lived on a lot less once upon a time, they knew the differences between needs and wants and still lived happy lives.

To answer your question. As long as a family can shelter, feed, dress and love/care for a child, they should be able to make those memories without judgment from others. Everyones life is there own, everyone is making their own memories.

Personally? Yes, I do feel it is. Do I stress this to others? No, not my life.

I think it is to try for the baby but if it happens then it happens. If they're living paycheck to paycheck how are they going to feed another mouth? Diaper another person?

I'm curently living paycheck to paycheck and will do til about Feburary ... we're going to start TTC next month. I will easily be able to diaper another person because my 19 month old will mostly be potty trained by the time a new one arrives and I intend to breastfeed, If I can't breastfeed I'll make sure to work overtime to afford formula.

I think it depends on what the amount of the pay to pay is, really!

Yes, the paycheck and expnses matter greatly in this arguement.
I was raised in a middle, middle-class family. My parents would have described themselves as "paycheck-paycheck" and most of their friends would have described themselves that way. We werent poor, but nearly all of their pay was spent every month, they got behind every once in a while and had credit card debt. they also had months when they were ahead and that allowed them to pay more of the credit cards and set some money aside for things that were nice to have or nearly required like new clothing for school and jackets in the winter.
so, "paycheck to paycheck" is very subjective.

Same here & I do the same for my son. Just because something provided is 'fancy' doesn't mean people pawn their kids off & don't spend quailty time with them & their memories suck.

My parents own a huge kick ass house with a pool and 4 bedrooms, and they bought it in 1986 (cost was lower then) lol but they were young early 20's I was 3 and my brother was 6.
But they have always lived paycheck to paycheck and still do know. And they both work mon-fri My dad gets paid from 8am to 4pm at 25.00 an hour plus overtime and all those nice extras, and my mom makes slightly more then my dad and works mon-fri from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

But still live pay to pay. lol when I was a kid we went on trips did fun things sports etc.....but still did pay to pay.

I live pay to pay and still put at least 300 in savings a month for years, I have crazy savings now. lol And my kids are happy healthy and they do sports and and we do movies twice a week. and eat well and they wear clothes etc....

It is very subjective when it comes to pay to pay. But it also depends on how parents spend their money, is it on the neccesities their family needs or the wants of the family.

I think if a couple is barely living off of their income every month and needs huge amounts of handouts, it would not be the best time to TTC. If it happens it happens.
But I hate wehn parents have kids, cause they think their money troubles will be over due to "more" assistance or better child tax etc....Its not right at all. lol
