I think it's stupid and I wouldn't do it but people do. I just can't imagine telling my kid they can't play baseball or get braces because I can't afford it. I never ever think children should have to bear their parents poor planning.

Just because you're TTC now doesn't mean you're going to be living check to check at 30 or 40 when the kid is old enough to wear braces or play baseball. Smurf we're check to check and broke right now because SO got laid off for 5 months and we're clawing our way back from that ... we're both on career paths that by the time our kids our old enough they'll be able to go to private school and have anything. Unfortunately that'll take 6-10 years and I am not waiting til my late 30's - early 40's to have kids.

Well to many "its my right to have kids" mentality; When they dont think about their childrens rights. Like I said smurf happens , but to get pregnant on purpose is dumb

That's a nice thought. But you have no idea if you will even get a job when you graduate. I just think that adding a baby when you have no extra money is dumb. Relying on the government to care for your baby because you have to have one now is dumb. I would never want to have children and not have extra money. Like can you afford a crib, car seat, stroller, formula, etc? How about Pre school?

I already have a job and a set career path in IT and customer service, I'm currently doing schooling through work for a promotion in Feburary whilst I work full time and SO is probably moving into conflict resolution and a promotion in the next few weeks. I'm going back to school online next year but that's to do creative writing because I want to not because I need it.

Wow, not everyone is born with a smurfing silver spoon hanging out of their mouth. LOTS of people live cheque to cheque and their children may never have a want for anything.
I would hate my daughters turn out to be so spoiled and pampered they never learn the value of a dollar or the feeling of accomplishment of working for something.

also I kept all my stuff from my last child and will reuse it, there's no reason each child needs a new crib, high chair etc. The new child will go to the same early learning centre that DS is currently in that includes kindergarten and then they will go to the school that's five doors from my house. Pre-school and primary school here is really good in the public system and costs something like $55 a year.

I would never want to live my life that way. I can't imagine bringing a life into the world when I couldn't ever afford a 2000$ emergency.

on it in a draw that has been there for a year and never touched ... plus we're insured to the hilt (income protection, life, funeral, and house/contents) which is part of why I'm living check to check,

Nobody is saying you have to be rich and nobody is suggesting that kids should be raised without parents setting expectations.

Take into account of location as well. People are talking about emergency trips to the ER, well here in aus that's a free trip because we have Medicare cover here. That wouldn't be an unexpected expense. Where in America that would be what .. A pretty expensive unexpected expense.

Here in aus it is affordable to have children when you don't have savings and are pay check to pay check.

The only thing I find irresponsible about having children here are the moochers. They pop out kids just for the baby bonus we get per kid, they are being paid to have children, so they have them. That right there is just... My breaking point.

Yeah the baby bonus thing pisses me off ... I think offer paid maternity leave OR like gift vouchers to baby stores instead. The baby bonus system doesn't work.
And also here you can have full ante-natal care, classes, the birth, post-natal care, lactation consultants etc etc all for free.

What I'm saying is that just because a person lives chq to chq doesn't mean that should prevent them from having kids. To judge somebody bc they want a child & live chq to chq is ridiculous. I wouldn't recommend someone on welfare go and try to have babies, but if someone can provide a home, food, medicine, clothes etc, who is anyone to judge them?

Most people have insurance and ERs are covered.
Medicaid, or some form of government coverage is available for most kids that's dont have insurance.

IMO, there is a BIG difference between being paycheck to paycheck and being truly poor.
