It's not irresponsible at all. i think the saying "children are expensive" is a bit over used. This is coming from someone that fell pregnant unplanned,i find it pretty cheap to take care of one child, without any help from the state.

They tend to get more costly as they get older!

I don't know about that. Daycare alone is expensive if you don't have a SAHP.

And, tbh, I want to be able to give my children more than just the bare necessities. I would like to take them to Disney world and put them through college and be able to spoil them every now and then.

well I don't think living pay check to pay check is necessarily poor. We live pay check to pay check and we make good money. We don't have credit cards and we like to spend our money. We buy what we need when we need it and indulge when we can. Our kids are clothed, fed, involved in extra curriculars, have way too many toys and we rent a nice home in a great area and have two vehicles. So it's all really just subjective.

I think all parents want to be able to provide nothing but the best for their children. They'd want to spoil them with the best toys, best clothes, best holidays... ect. The child would then be happy. But if you live paycheck to paycheck and save up for a rare holiday or treat, the child would enjoy it more and be more grateful.   also, you never know what could happen in the future, you could get richer, or you could get poorer. I don't think there's ever a perfect time to have you baby. You should just go for it if you have the basic things that your child needs. Everyone deserves to have a family, and not everyone is rich/well off. I've even noticed that my friends who have poor parents are the happiest. So, no, I don't think it's irresponsible.

How about if you are on public assistance?

As long as you provide everything your child needs, does it matter where the money comes from? And where I live, that doesn't really exist.

I think it matters. In my opinion, if you cant afford to feed and clothe and house a child, you wait until you can.

I agree 100%.

Assistance is made for people who lose their jobs, fall into hard times and there to use for a short pperiod of time, till you land on your feet. Assistance is not a long term solution to money issues IMO.

If you are on assistance already, you dont need more kids in your home to live off of the Government.

Most kids who grow up on assistance grow up to be on assistance themselves. Some are lucky and do better then that, but not the majority.

Wait until she starts school or plays sports and everything. It does get more expensive!

My daughter is in school and takes ballet and fencing. I still spend considerably less now. Formula and diapers cost more than her classes and I don't have to buy her a whole new wardrobe every three months when she grows more...and kids clothes are cheaper than baby clothes. I do less laundry and she sleeps through the night so I don't run electricity up, she gets sick less, and I pay less in groceries because breakfast and lunch are included in tuition.

No, you can be broke and still have everything you need. Heck how many people are homesteading and technically 'poor' (or rather, choose to live without things many of us deem to be necessary in life like electricity) and they are perfectly fine and happy.

Kids clothes and shoes are way more than baby stuff! A pair of shoes for my kids is like 50$ to 100$ vs it used to be like 15-20$

And I only expect them the become more expensive as they grow, they will eat more want more things and eventually go to college.

My babies were not that expensive. I did breast feed for a while though so that helped.
