Yes because most likely they are living off the government too.

Circumstances change too. Jobs are lost, people laid off, etc.. so people should never try to have a family together and love because these things might happen. People are rich, people are poor. It happens. Now if you can't afford to even take care of yourself, than I would wait, but smurf happens.

Quoting khigh:" No one said rich. Poor or paycheck to paycheck? Don't bring a baby into that situation. Babies are ... [snip!] ... Children even more so. You should have some sort of savings (3 months of living expenses in my opinion) before you TTC."
There is a difference though between poor and paycheck to paycheck. I'm by no means poor, but we do live from one check to the next. And I think it's wrong to TTC a baby if you aren't fully prepared, but this one was a complete suprise, should i abort my baby just because I won't have tons of money to shower it with gifts? Definitely not!! I'm just gonna be more of a minimalist in the rest of my life and get the necessities for the baby and my older child and we'll make do with what we have.

Let's assume they are not on government assistance.

If they are not on government assistance (including medical) and they can afford to support the baby growing up then I say it isnt irresponsible. They will be taking full responsibility for the child.

we do not live check to check and neither of us have a degree or are working towards one. We could each independently provide for the family without the other's income too.

I see people say all the time that poor shouldn't have kids. But what if these are hard-working people who will never be able to advance themselves financially? Let's face it. Someone has to work the minimum wage jobs.

Planning a baby if you live check to check is so irresponsible. If something happens for even a week, you're smurfed.

You should have several months of income saved as a just in case fund before trying, IMO.

Honestly? Then I don't think they should TTC. Accidents are different, but willingly bringing a baby into the world when you can barely afford to pay for yourself (and, paycheck to paycheck is just that-you couldn't take a day off work if baby got sick without it effecting everything in your life)? That's just wrong.

My answer is yes.
While I think saving money and waiting until you are financially secure is ideal, things happen.

I've heard people say that too and then turn around and claim that only teens should be working the minimum wage jobs and bullsmurf like that. Whatever, if only people who had an abundance of money were to reproduce, our population would drop incredibly and dangerously fast.

But OP didn't say "planning" a baby, "Do you think it is irresponsible to have kids if the parents are poor/living paycheck to paycheck? " I'm having a kid but it wasn't planned.

Yes it is. I did not for sure I said most likely and if you are living paycheck to paycheck you most likely are living beyond your means wich means medical expenses and unexpected bills are not paid.

If I am not right please explain how.
