re: Are natural pregnancies a thing of the past?

The article pretty much states that they can recreate the baby's experience in the womb... but I have no idea about the mother's.

I have a feeling if this were available to the public, a lot of women would opt out of pregnancy altogether.

Honestly, eventually it will be to that point where it's accessible to the public. That is so weird to think about

And not to get OT, but I wonder how will this affect abortion. If a woman doesn't have to carry a fetus, and the fetus could be removed and placed into one of these artificial wombs, I wonder if it would be legal for a man to stop a woman from having an abortion and instead remove the fetus and place it into one of these artificial wombs.

Sorry for the rant, lol.

They lightly touched on that in the article but not from a man's point. I honestly have no idea. Def be a huge population if we can save babies that were supposed to be aborted.

I actually think that would be awesome. I have a few male friends who's girlfriends had abortions and it kills them. They would gladly have raised the child themselves.

It's a great idea for people who can't carry a pregnancy to term or for Dad's who want their baby but the Mom wants to end the pregnancy. However if it was available to anyone to use then I can only see bad things coming from it. Cutting out the 9 months of pain and joy that pregnancy brings would be horrible for most families. Those 9 months, no matter how long, tedious, uncomfortable and painful, stressful and at times disabling are valuable! carrying my daughter in 2011 wrecked my hip and I am still waiting for surgery to correct it but I wouldn't change the experience. It made me quit smoking, made me eat healthier, made me lose weight and those are just the benefits to my health. There were emotional benefits too. Feeling this little person inside me, although sometimes I wished she would've not been so keen to bust my ribs or squish my bladder, but those moments were priceless and something I can tell her about when she's bigger. I look at her now she is 14 months old and sometimes I have to catch my breath because it overwhelms me that I made her and carried her for 9 months.
I wonder if people skipped the pregnancy part and used an artificial womb would they have that connection?
Of course for familes unable to be pregnant then the intense longing to have a baby, grown in any womb is enough to compensate for missing the pregnancy experience.

I believe that if one parent terminates the right to their child then no child support is to be paid but until that rule is law then yeaaaaahhh bleed the 'dead beat' mammas dry! Lol. I agree though. It's scary. If the article is true and these things do exist then this sciencey robot womb should only ever be available to those unable to carry a pregnancy to term and no-one else. EVER!

I could see gay couples using this. I think I'd use a human surrogate that would donate breastmilk to me, though... until I make my own milk.

I don't see why people are upset if a woman doesn't want to carry a child just because, why do you care?

I was reading into this, and I guess something like this is already used in Japan for premature babies.

That is disturbing and shouldn't even be being researched.

Give it a few more generations and everyone will be like that Bruce Willis movie where they control robots that go through life for them.

I wouldn't for a second consider growing my child in a fake uterus. Creeps me out just thinking about it.
