Desperate Need Of Help

posted 14th Nov
My husband and I have tried everything to potty train our son Joseph. He is almost 3.5 yrs old. No matter what we do he doesn't understand the concept and he's getting older and wants to start school but we can't enroll him when he is still in pull-ups. There will be some days where he will tell us he needs to use the potty but most days he won't tell us at all and go in his pull-up. We've tried having him in only underwear, naked, everything you can possibly think of. There are times when he starts going in his pull-up and then lets us know he has to go after he already started. He tells us when we are out and about most of the time but now he has given up and everything we have done feels like it hasn't made a difference. We are getting frustrated and don't know what to do anymore. Is there anything you suggest we are in desperate need of help.

I would recommend is to put him on the potty every ten minutes for an entire day but it will be very exhausting for you. Read some potty books. Offer him treats or prizes. They really will only start peeing in the potty when they are ready.

I have tried that. I've tried every 30 - every 10 minutes. Only worked for a day. I've tried rewards, praise, bribe, money, candy, etc.

I am having the same issues with my 4 year old. We have started a prize basket full of small toys and books/crayons. When he has no accidents for the day (he knows full well when he has to go), he gets to choose a prize. We are going to be upping the number of days he has to go with no accident once he gets the hang of it.

I've also tried giving him a prize when he doesn't go. Doesn't seem to work. I mean I've tried EVERYTHING and i've been letting him tell me when he has to go but its always too late.
