2nd baby after a demanding 1st baby?? *POLL*

posted 14th Nov
I have a 16 month old whom I love very much and wouldn't trade for anything but has been a very difficult baby! He had extreme sleep issues from 4-7 months and from 6-12 months has had extreme separation anxiety, still has it but it's getting better. (this kid doesn't do anything half way!) I don't want him to be an only child and I have the attitude that if he was that difficult then baby #2 has GOT to be easier!! Hubby keeps saying we shouldn't have a second baby because our son was/is so demanding. So my question for you is... If you had originally wanted 2 kids or more but were having doubts after the 1st but you had a second baby anyway, are you glad you did? (Obviously you love them and wouldn't trade them but if you could do it over again...???) Were things easier the second go round?

I made it a poll because a. people like to answer polls and b. you can be anonymous if you feel bad about even thinking you should have stuck with one kid.

My first was an awful baby. Bad delivery, difficult newborn, I was rather miserable at certain points.

My second was like a dream! He's a pretty crazy toddler, but a much easier baby. I can't imagine my life without either of them.

My son is the EXACT same way. I had the same worries but my daughter is a complete sweetie. She acts nothing like he did.

Bryden (my first) was definitely a more needy baby! Draco seems so laid back and easy compared to my first. I don't regret it at all

My son was/is demanding. He's almost 2. I have a 2 week old now, so glad I decided to have another one. You adjust and get used to it.

i had the opposite of most. My first was easy as can be (and he still is at 5). My daughter is a handful and a half. Very needy, and she just has a more demanding personality overall. I love her, but she is a stinker!

I'm wondering the same thing
My 1st was and is so demanding. Hes 14 months and still doesn't sleep thru the night. My pregnancy was a breeze but my labor was awful. I ended up having a C-section. I came home after 6 days and just had the worst time trying to cope to the new mommy life. I was diagnosed with PPD because I did nothing but feel lonely and cry all the time. I was sad because I felt no connection to my child. I ended up in and out of the ER a few different times because od dehydration, exhaustion, and not eating. (I threw up everything I ate) It was HORRIBLE! Thank god I had my mom to help. She would come over and spend the night and wake up with my son so I could sleep and recover from the C-Section. I was in some horrible pain.

I always wanted 2 kids, but after my 1st I have serious doubts. I'm afraid to go thru the same thing. My DH doesn't even want another after our experience with our first. It's gotten WAY better now other than my son teething really bad.

You had a rough start! Are you feeling better now? And don't even get me started on my son teething! Gah! See I had it really easy with my labor, birth and having a newb but pregnancy and everything else has been super trying!! This is such a short period of time while they are babies and I'm trying to get my husband to see that!! I'm definitely going to show him this thread!!

I watch my neighbor's little girl who is 5 months older than my son and she is WAY easier than my son!! But I think he is just one of a kind because my nephew who is two weeks younger is a breeze. But he's also a second child and my sister's first was a nightmare!

My om always told me that I was lucky that my son was such a good baby. I didn't realize just how easy he was until having Marilyn.

Landon and Oliver are like night and day.
I've noticed a trend in first babies being totally crazy and second babies being really laid back and "easy".

Yes very rough start. Everything is fantastic now as far as my depression and all that. Only thing I struggle with right now is his teething and being grumpy.

I've been having baby fever LOL and DH is like No!!!! He's said he's okay with DS being an only child. I'm not. I was happy to have a sibling to play with. We fought a lot, but still. I wouldn't want to be an only child. They grow up so fast. For me there are def. pros and cons to having another. Without sounding selfish at all I like the fact with just having 1 DH and I can still get out alone time together for a date night..for some reason I feel like with 2 it wouldn't happen. Obviously 2 is more money and we're just not financially stable for 2. That may come off way worse than I meant it to be. He also says his reasoning for 1 is evaluate he wants to afford to go on family vacations. Like to France, Germany..etc. he says with 2 it would be really hard to do that. I understand that. So it's def. something to think about. If it happens then it was meant to be. I don't think we're going to TTC anytime soon. I guess I just have mixed feelings on it. Either way I'm blessed to at least have my son. He's my world...even though today he's been driving me totally crazy!!!
