CIO Support Please

posted 14th Nov
I understand a lot of mom's on here don't agree with this.

I'm asking for respect, and the benefit of the doubt that I have exhausted all other options.

DD is 13mo and stopped taking naps in the daytime about two weeks ago. Instead, she falls asleep at 6pm, wakes up around 1am, stays up for two hours, and goes back to sleep. She's very cranky in the mornings and evenings now because of it, so I need something to help her get rest in the daytime. I don't care about the fact that she's not sleeping through the night, but staying up for two hours straight is NOT good for her and I know that.

She absolutely hates her pack and play, but I've got to at least try it.

She's in it now, not really crying, but she does sound like she's annoyed by it. I put her in it at 1:16 central time and it's now 1:24 central time. What's the longest I should let her stay in if she's not throwing a fit/crying? What about if she is crying?

Edit: If you CIO, does it help to talk to your LO while they're crying, or does it make them want out more?

TIA!

Can you not try put her to sleep a bit later at night time? maybe 8pm? that way she MIGHT sleep through and not wake up for those two hours. (poor you)

If she's not really crying, I don't see the problem, but I'm mean lol, but no, I never talked to my daughter, I put her down, kissed her and told her I loved her then left, but I got lucky she'd whine for 5mins max then that was it.

Good luck!

I've tried, when she wants to go to bed for the night it's like she practically dies and doesn't come back to life unless she gets hungry. I have literally bounced her on my leg with her eyes still fluttering shut.

I'm not so much worried about me, but about her. I don't know why she's staying up in the day time, but it has to be stressing her out making her little body run that long. That's the only reason I can think of why she crashes so hard at night.

It's been fifteen minutes, and she's actually crying now, but it's still not like tantrum crying. She'll stop for a little bit and kind of move around (I can see her from my room but she can't see me) then she'll get mad again.

My son will often pitch fits for naptime, but it's usually when he's overly tired. He doesn't want sleep the most when he needs it the most lol. If she isn't crying I say let her be. As far as if she does start crying, I think talking to her would be best, but I don't CIO either........unless you count him crying while I am holding him. For naptime, I know this is probably horrible advice, but it takes 5 minutes out of my day. I HAVE to lay with him. Have to. He refuses to fall asleep for naptime without me right there. Bed time is a breeze, he goes in and falls right to sleep, but never has for naps. After he falls asleep I can leave just fine. I think sometimes we have to pick our battles as parents, and this is one I let him have, he gets a nap and I get an extra 5 minutes of snuggle time while he falls asleep for nap.

She used to do that. =[ I used to be able to snuggle her for ten minutes max and she'd be OUT. Now she just slaps me in the face because she wants to play.

What time does she wake up? Maybe if you try an earlier wake up time she'll get sleepy earlier in the day? I'm sorry, this age is filled with lots of battles. When my son hit 18 months he REFUSED to sleep in his bed at night for a good month. I tried CIO one night and lasted a whole 2 minutes lol. Then one night it was just like it was before.

On days she wakes up at 6 does she nap easier? Hopefully this is just a phase she'll soon be out of

No, she's started waking up that early a few weeks ago and she hasn't napped since. She literally hasn't had a nap in weeks no matter what I do.
