High Blood Pressure

posted 14th Nov
I have had perfect blood pressure throughout my entire pregnancy until the last 3 doctors appointments I have had. My midwife told me just to watch my sodium intake because I haven't had any swelling or any other symptoms of high blood pressure. Just curious, what happens if my blood pressure will not go down? Has anybody else had this happen to them? I am really trying to watch what I eat but like I said just out of curiosity I would like to know what happens if my blood pressure won't go down.

They will induce you if it gets to high or admit you in the hospital if its not in control

With my son I also had this. Was induced at 38 weeks because of it. Tested negative for Pre-E but my blood pressure was becoming very dangerous!

My dr said mine was 'kind of high' so they induced me a week before my due date

they might try some medication first, it probably depends on how high it gets.

I have high blood pressure sometimes, and the salt intake really does make a difference for me!

well, if your BP stays up high there could be some not fun symptoms and health problems. There is the swelling that can occur, headaches right behind your eyes, seeing spots or "sparkles" pretty much your vision gets all wonked out. There is potential that your liver can start to be damaged causing pain in the upper right side of your body. You can be very dizzy all the time and not feel good at all. High BP can be a symptom of Pre-e which is not a good thing. Your doctor might decide to induce you early if your BP cant come down and your health seems to be doing not well. I didnt have Pre-e but i had gestational hyperstension. I started getting headaches all the time and my feet and legs were beyond the normal swelling of pregnancy. I ended up in the hospital twice because my BP shot up crazy high. I ended up being induced a day before i was 38 weeks. My baby is totally fine and came out healthy. My BP went down pretty much instantly after giving birth and all the symptoms and things i had went away after delivery

Oh, wow, that sounds scary! Glad your baby came out healthy and everything went good for you. I haven't had any physical symptoms like that yet, that's why my midwife isn't too worried right now and just told me to watch my sodium intake. (it's so hard to do!)

I had perfect BP until 35 weeks   Ended up in hospital but released with meds. I am now 38 weeks and still stable!
I probably won't go past my due date though.
As long as you don't have protein in your urine they will try to manage with meds but if they don't work then you will have your baby!

Awww good for you! Yeah, so far they haven't seen any proteins in my urine (yay!) so I guess I'm just hoping it goes down on it's own or they give me the medication to help me control it.

How high was it if you don't mind me asking?

Most likely induced you because high blood pressure can cause pre e and it isnt fun to have that. Rather scariest IMO , I had it with my daughter. I had stay in bed they were worried that I was going have stroke with how high mine got. Lucky after I had her 2 days later my blood pressure was back to normal. Some people are that lucky and have permeant health problems and the have take blood pressure meds.

You're doing ok hun.
Mine went up to 160/110!
Hopefully that is a little reassurance for you   Just make sure your DR/OB/Midwife checks is regularly now - at least once a week.

This is what happened with my son last year... I did not have excessive swelling or irregular blood pressure until 34 weeks. They thought it was nothing until 36 weeks I just felt off and went into the hospital. My blood pressure was fine but they still decided to do blood work and it came back with pre ec... It took almost 3 weeks of doing labs every week before it showed in my blood. They decided to induce at that point. I am now just about 34 weeks with my second son and i have just been pulled off of work for the same symptoms that I had with my last pregnancy. Just have them continue to monitor you and dont feel like your asking too much to continue to have labs drawn. From my research I have found out that it is something that can change over night and in my case I didnt have any of the major syptoms to alert the doctors which may be the same case for you. As long as you keep on them about checking you everything will be fine.
