My husband's family HATED our choice for our daughter now they love it because they see how much it fits her.
They kept throwing out the ugliest or not our style type of names and it was irritating, sorry but the name Ella and smurf like that is just NOT me.
They love Skye now.
Do what YOU guys wants, they will get the smurf over it.

Tell them tough smurf.
There's people on DHs side that doesn't like what we chose for DS. I told them too bad. My child, not theirs.

Screw what they say. Thats why I never tell anyone. My mom dislikes my newbs name, she wasnt expecting me to pick something so generic. My first is Zackery Alexander and my newest son is Tyler James. I like it but hate that James is a generic filler name but oh well. I think the name you guys picked is nice. Spelled right and not made up so you cant go wrong with it.

in most cases I would tell you to tell them to shove it.

However, they are right. Sometimes the truth hurts.

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with your name. It's a nice, old biblical classic thats been around for ages, it has a unique and quirky sound, but nothing ugly or over the top. James is a nice sturdy classic - I fail to see whats wrong with it? It's not like you screwed with the spelling or choose something super out there.

I would just stop talking about it and if they bring it up, just tell them it's not up for discussion anymore.

Quoting Vivian [♥]:" I think the reason I'm taking it so personally is because of allllllllllll the fights DH and I have gone ... [snip!] ... And will NIT budge on them. Ezekiel was a huuuuuuuuuuge compromise for me because it was 10x better than the names on his list."

I really feel your pain, I'm sorry. My SO has pretty horrible taste in girls names - like, super cheesy theme names that match his other daughters names (which I didn't name, their my step-daughters). There are maybe 2 names on his list that I would consider using and those....aren't even favorites of mine. Ezekiel James is honestly a really nice name, though - I just don't get what people could possibly say against it! It's that nice balance between classic and unusual and underused, it's got strong biblical roots and a long history to it - but totally not unheard of and really off the wall! People are weird and I would stick to your guns, like I said - just tell them it's not up for discussion anymore and if they persist, tell them that it's truly insulting and if they respected you then they would understand and leave it alone. I hope things get better though.
