High risk pregnancy?

posted 14th Nov
They told me yesterday that I was at high risk because I am a bleeder. Yet I still have to wait until 20-24 weeks to have my first ultrasound?! Why is that? The army clinic takes care of me and they only to ultrasounds 20-24 weeks yet everyone i know had ultrasounds before then. What happens when your "high risk"? Then they weighed me. Pre pregnancy weight was 90 lbs. I am 4'11 and have a small frame. I am small overall. Never could gain weight throughout my life. Ate mcdonalds on a regular basis and never gained a pound. I am 16 weeks and I am 102 pounds now. Ive gained 12 pounds within 4 months. How when im eating healthier and just as much as i did before i became pregnant?! I am tryng to be all baby, and no belly afterward. Any answers are helpful.. thankyou.

  This.
I never had trouble avoiding weight gain before either. I'm 38 weeks and a few days and have gained 80lbs.
You're pregnant. That's what happens.

It depends on WHY you're high risk. I was high risk with my second and third because of the fact my first was born 4 weeks early. They didn't really do anything differently unless I started having complications. With my second, my water started leaking at 26.5 weeks, and I went up to the closest hospital that had a NICU that could handle a baby born that early. Thankfully, I didn't need it, whatever caused my water to leak healed over and he stayed in for another 8.5 weeks, and was born at 35 weeks. I went into pre-term labor twice with my youngest, got a dose of magnesium sulfate, steroid shots, the whole nine yards. What "high risk" meant for me was that they took my early contractions much more seriously.

That's only 3 pounds each month. It's not a lot. You're supposed to gain around 30lbs in a pregnancy. You're almost halfway through, so you're actually right on track.

If you're high risk because you bleed easily, I can understand why they aren't monitoring your baby as closely. Bleeding disorders are monitored by repeated blood draws usually to make sure all your blood counts are within normal ranges. The real risk will come after you deliver the baby and placenta. High risk doesn't always mean you get more ultrasounds. If you have any bleeding though you should be quick to report it to your doctor.

As far as the weight gain goes, a lot of that may just be water weight or weight gained in your breasts and butt in addition to baby weight. I gained 50 with my first two and the weight melted right off after delivery. As long as your doctor isn't concerned, try not to worry. 12 pounds sounds pretty average to me.

That's how the Army did me when my husband was in. The only reason why I got one early was becasue my bp was high. I ended up losing my twins at 7wks but now I am pregnant again and I'm on medicaid and I have had 5 u/s and I'm high risk as well. I'm 32wks

THANKYOU! It is because I am a bleeder (I am not sure if i mentioned that) but you hit it right on the head.
