Bloody show or mucus plug? Tmi

posted 14th Nov
This is my first and I'm so very confused... yesterday I woke up from a nap and had blood in my underwear with clots/chunks? of mucus, I freaked and called L&D, who said if it didn't stop to come in. Within half an hour I decided to go in and get checked and the only thing she said was it was my cervix getting ready.

Then last night, for the first time ever, i woke up out of a dead sleep with the WORST cramps that felt like I had to poop? (I assume that's what real contractions feel like?) they lasted for about a minute, I went to the bathroom and sat on the toilet for awhile, not pushing or straining, just trying to relax to see if I had to have a BM, and the only thing that came out was a chunk/glob of red something? about the size of a dime.

Sounds like it. But I've never seen one. I had my oldest without ever having any of that.

My show started like that and quickly became giant globs of orange and bloody slime which the nurse said was my plug coming out with the show. Your cramping sounds like my back labor, the entire time I felt like I needed to go.

This is what I found..

You pass your mucus plug or notice "bloody show."
You may pass your mucus plug — the small amount of thickened mucus that has sealed your cervical canal during the last nine months — if your cervix begins to efface significantly or dilate as you get close to labor.

The plug may come out in a lump or as increased vaginal discharge over the course of several days. The mucus may be tinged with brown, pink, or red blood, which is why it's referred to as "bloody show." Having sex or a vaginal exam can also disturb your mucus plug and cause you to see some blood-tinged discharge, even when labor isn't going to start in the next few days.

Sounds like your mucus plug. I lost mine with my daughter and went into labor later that day. You can lose it and not go into labor as well.

Sounds like you've had a show, you should go into labour soon, when I lost mine I went into labour less than 12 hours later. Good luck

Did it come at once or keep coming over days? Now I just have pink/brown streaks on my panty liner without any mucus. And after peeing I have pink mucus? but not thick.

Yeah, I was under the impression they were different but I just googled and it appears they are not so much. I did find this though, but it may not be accurate.

Summary:
1. Mucus plug is cervical mucus that is formed in the cervical canal to protect the uterus from bacteria, bloody show is the blood tinged mucus discharged by the cervix at the onset of labor.
2. Mucus plug can be clear or cloudy and tinged with little blood, bloody show almost always have blood in it.
3. Mucus plug discharge can usually happen even during vaginal examination or intercourse, bloody show will usually happen at the onset and during labor.
4. Mucus plug usually precedes bloody show.

Mine started small at 5am and quickly turned into giant globs that filled the bottom of the toilet. I had my son at 9pm that night.

I had that for a few days after having my cerviix checked. Some of the blood vessels ruptured and there was dark/brownish clumpy blood for a few days. My doctor said that's normal. If it's like a period flood of blood, then he said to come in. I haven't lost my muscus plug at all and have been dilated to only a 1/2 cm for two weeks. He's going to inducce monday if lil' man doesn't come on his own.
