of course you won't see the big deal. surprisingly enough i am not the only person with native blood that feels this way. it's the same thing with using natives as mascots, it's very disrespectful. a culture should never be a fashion. like i said, you will never see them paint a black face on a model while she's wearing a dashiki, they know the whole black community would be up in arms about it but for some reason white people think native people should not feel compassionate about who they are, where they come from and what represents them.

The whole black face thing would be an apt comparison if they'd painted the model red before putting the headdress on her. Then, it would be racist. Just wearing a dashiki would be a fashion statement, kinda like people wearing feathers in their hair or turquoise jewelry. Lots of cultural clothes are made into fashion statements. Demi Moore was all over tv last week for wearing a sari to her birthday party. Ninjas are everywhere on Halloween. I saw a coat in a catalog yesterday labeled Eskimo inspired.

The 'authentic Indian village' down the road from me sells beaded/feathered headdresses for $75 and ceremonial peace pipes for $150. In terms of commercializing my heritage, I'm personally more offended by 19 year-old girls with dream catcher tattoos on their ass, or those hideous wolf/moon t-shirts you see at truck stops.

As a culture, we should be far more concerned about the addiction problems, substandard education, and suicide rates of our people versus what a 12-pound model wore for 45 seconds. To each their own.

That's what I was going to say...being black/the old blackface thing isn't comparable to a Native American-inspired headdress.

A sexified kimono, for instance, would be a good comparison.

It's just petty, in my opinion.

Should be ban all Halloween costumes too? I mean it's pretty offensive that someone dresses like a princess when they are not royal.

Geez. The title "Sexy Little Geisha" is more controversial to me than the outfit.

in the end of the day we will all have our own opinions and no internet person will change that but some people just feel more strongly about this than others and there is nothing wrong with that.

Lmao. It's gotta be a THREE wolf/moon shirt for me to consider it classy. The wolf to moon ratio is a pretty scientific formula, but the glow in the dark factor might change my mind.
