Ear piercing.....
posted 14th Nov
I am thinking of getting my 7 month olds ears pierced today. Would like to hear from moms who pierced their DDs ears so I can know what to expect. We have a busy weekend coming up so was wondering if I should expect a super fussy baby or not. Also would like to know how your LO reacted to the actual piercing. Any info from moms who pierce would be greatly appreciated!!! TIA!

I got my LO's ears pierced around that time. She cried for a few seconds and then was fine. She wasn't fussy at all the following days. She's 2 1/2 now and she never messes with them or anything. If this baby is a girl, I'll be doing it the same way!

I use to pierce ears..bring a bottle or paci (or breastfed) right after. 7 months has good head control so ask about them doing it at the same time so she only feels it once..but this sometimes doesn't work because she has to stay looking forward. Also, some people like to add the clear backs in addition to the normal backs so the rubber part rest along her head instead of the earring poking her. Good luck!

I personally wouldn't pierce my child's ear that young, because permanent things should be their choice, but if you're set on doing it, do NOT go to a mall or salon or some other place like that. You should be able to do it at your Pedi's office. A lot of places still use the guns, which are nasty and really unsanitary.

I didn't get my girls ears pierced until they could ask me and take care of them! It's been a little over a month now - they are 5 and 3 years old!

Most drs offices have actually stopped doing it because they have no idea what they are doing most of the time, so they end up uneven and infected.

I wouldnt get them pierced at the same time. My mom had them do that with me and I jerked my head which made the hole in my left ear very crooked

Yeah they won't do it if the child won't stay still but I've seen some babies do it just fine so I threw it out there because it tends to make the parent feel better when it's done that way..but like I said they only do it if the child is staying still. (And then they count over their head and go at the same time to avoid one being crooked from jerking)

Yeah I think with mine the guns must've not gone off at the same time which caused me to jerk, I was a year old.

Man that sucks we used a gun where I worked but as part of the set up you had to check the gun to make sure it was going smoothly, while you were cleaning it off.

Some people say to wait until the child can ask for them. In my experience, girls in my family who have waited until the child was old enough to ask had issues with them. 1) the child being fearful of doing it although they really want to 2)infections bc they play with them 3) taking them out bc they hurt causing the hole to close and other issues. I have never met a girl that had them done as an infant who grew up to be upset that they had it done or was pissed at their parent for doing something "permanent" to them. If she gets older and this happens to be the case, she can take them out and the holes will close. In my eyes it's not permanent. This is just how I view it though and of course I know there are differing opinions. I'm just going with what I have experienced with my nieces and actually myself as a child.

There's a LOT of youtube videos of people getting their babies ears pierced. You can watch those, lol. Some of them are hilarious and some are really sad.
