Bad move PETA

posted 14th Nov
Just saw this advertisement from PETA and couldn't believe my eyes! Even the animal activists don't think about their own species?!
I just had to share.

Click the link to read a letter written to PETA about why this is picture is wrong:

I found it amusing. I have a warped sense of humor. Not sure how this shows that they don't think about their own species, though...?

I have added a link that includes a letter written to PETA about the advertisement. Give it a read.

I feel that the person who wrote the letter is overreacting. Pubic hair that isn't kept trimmed within the panty line is one thing... Pubic hair down to your knees, on the other hand...

I think you are missing the point...
To compare the body hair of a human to the fur of an animal is disgraceful! Women are already down trodden in the media 24/7 why should an animal activist group add to our misfortune? It isn't the fact that her pubic hair is to her knees it is the fact that in saying a woman being unshaven and unkempt is just as ugly as murdering animals < That is an over reaction.

I'm not missing your point... I just don't find it offensive or oppressive.

Yup, and that's the scary reality.

Seriously?

These kind of reactions are what's wrong with the world. If you find something offensive, dont look and move on. If everyone used all the time they waste bitching about things that offend them on something constructive... We'd live in a lot better place.

If you think this is such an outrage to women's right, then go use your time and effort to better their cause, not rip an organization that for all intents in purposes is trying to fix some of human negligence and ignorance. (Although sometimes PETA gets a little crazy).

Just my opinion though. (Not directed at you, op.... The letter writer)

Do you not think her writing to PETA to stand up for women is doing something constructive with her offense?
I wouldn't want my daughter to be influenced by this... I know my daughter is going to be made to feel ugly by many many cruel advertisements in the media through out her life but I never thought that an activist group that 'should' be fighting for a good cause would be something to be wary of!
I think if more people actually took action against this kind of female degradation and let the media know that we won't stand to be made powerless then the world would be a better place.

You're taking a stand against an organization that is all about a good cause. There are far worse things in the media than this, and far worse companies putting them out there than PETA. I think this is a hugely misdirected women's right battle.

The ad is seen the way you want to see it. I'm all for women being portrayed fairly and accurately in the media. I want my daughter to feel beautiful the way she is, but I didn't for a second see anything wrong with this ad until I read your post and the letter, and even from seeing it from your pov I still don't find it offensive.

What about the women across the world who have their sexual organs mutilated, what about the women who are forced to show only their eyes, what about young girls sold as sex slaves? My point is there are far worse things out there that deserve attention in place of ranting about a PETA ad that in your mind implies women with too much pubic hair are ugly.

This is exactly my point - PETA are meant to be the good guys and they seem to be joining in with the degradation of women. This advert is hugely offensive in many ways for example: It is saying that killing an animal is as wrong as hairy women - that doesn't seem to add up, right? So in order for this organization to do a good thing and 'help' defenseless animals it has to put down it's own female counterparts within it's own species? That is a bit of a low shot do you not think? Yes, there are many bad focal points within media that undermine the portrayal of women and you would think that looking to the 'good guys' would be a safe bet for us women but now it turns out that even they will use our appearance against us in order for them to bring attention to their cause.

I think you are over reacting way way too much. I'm a woman, and I have a daughter and I got none of the things you said by looking at the ad.
