Traveling at 36 weeks

posted 14th Nov
So I'm 36 weeks and am going to be driving with me husband from ca to nm a 12 hour drive. I plan on stopping every two hours and walking around. My Ob office wouldn't say yes and just said its not recommend. I have no complications the only problem I have is cramps. Anyways were staying there two days and heading back any suggestions thoughts on this have I completely lost my mind

Only thing is are you comfortable maybe delivering at a different hospital? While it is unlikely you could go into labor. But yeah I would definitely stop and walk around. And don't get dehydrated

I agree....and don't hold your pee for a long time, it can cause a UTI.

I'm fine delivering at another hospital. I don't like my Ob very much anyways but I guess I'm just paranoid baby is going to get sick in the womb or something

If there is a hospital near by then I wouldn't really worry about it. It is highly unlikely that anything would happen as long as you haven't previously shown signs of early labor. Make sure you drink plenty, and pee often lol. I traveled 6 hours away 4 days before my due date. Doc gave me the ok for it too. She knew it wasn't going to happen anytime soon lol

The reason they tell you not to travel that late into pregnancy is because of blood clots can form in your legs- so make sure you do indeed stop A LOT to walk around & switch positions a lot in the car.. don't cross your legs either!

I felt pretty confident. I didn't think DS would come early but there were also 3 hospitals between home and where we were going. Traveling with a nurse and going to another nurses house so I figured between all of that I would be safe to travel.

It will be crazy uncomfortable of a drive for you!!! You will for sure want to get up and move alot.

My HONEST opinion is that you should do as your OB says. If you aren't getting a green light, heed the advice.

If your Dr is saying no I wouldn't do it. Your 36 wks meaning by 37 and up your Baby can decide to come. Your having cramps so that means your body is getting ready. A 12 hour drive... I took a 8 hour drive from MD to CT at 30 weeks. We made frequent stops and as hours passed my legs did ache and my backwas at 50%. When I got there, one of the days I slept for half of it. When I got back I felt exhausted, tired and uncomfortable. It took a good two days to feel regular again. Using the bathroom in those stalls were a mess too lol. I couldn't even imagine doing it at 36 weeks! You are basically turning right back around ... If u do go though, defiantly bring your paper work just incase. It will be bad enough you wont be where its familiar. At least they will be familiar with your pregnancy.
