Congested 5 month old =(

My son has been congested going on 4 days now. My SO's mom got him a Vaporizer? I think that's what they're called. We got him baby rub and baby nose drops and I've been suctioning out his nose with that boogy bulb. But he's still so very congested anyone have any helpful tips. I hate to see him like this. I can't sleep because I'm up half the night checking up on him (my poor lil man   )

If your are BFing, put a little up his nose.

Take him in the bathroom and turn the shower on as hot as it goes and sit in there with the door closed for a while. My son is congested with a bad cough (turned out to be croup) and that has been helping him.

What's croup? O.o I will try that. Right now he's sound asleep and he hasn't been sleeping comfortably for awhile so I don't want to wake him =/.

No he breastfed for 2 months straight but I stopped because no matter what I tried I wouldn't produce enough,fast enough.

Croup is swelling and narrowing of the voice box and wind pipe making it hard to breath causing the child to cough. They say the cough sounds like a barking seal but my son's cough was more rattly. It started as slight congestion though and turned to croup within a day. Steaming helps loosen up phlegm and clear nasal passages/air ways.

When my son was congested just before he turned 4 months old, he had a hard time breathing so I had to suction out his nose every hour or so. Well, his doctor suggested using Saline spray for his nose, which is the kind that is safe for infants. I used that on him every hour, gave him a warm (with slight steam rising) vapor bath and since he slept in our room in his bassinet, I raised the upper part of his mattress so his head was elevated so he wouldn't cough as much so he was able to breathe better. I even took him into our bathroom after running VERY hot water so the room would be very steamy and help his head as well.

It helped him to get over it a little quicker because of everything I did for him, it lasted for about 3-5 days, plus he was and still is teething as well.
