He's breathing funny

posted 13th Nov
DS is 9 1/2 months and when hes teething he gets a cold. Idk if his breathing funny has to do with that but he is breathing as though he ran a mile. Also a few times today I noticed him staring out into space which he normally doesnt do. I would call his name or wave in front of his face and he would start smiling and crawling around again. Maybe Im just freaking out for no reason but its kind of odd to me.

Right now he is acting normal he is crawling around and playing with toys.

Look at the skin below his throat, where his collar bones would meet, is it sucking in when he breaths? The other place to look for that, is at the bottom of his sternum. If the skin sucks in, in either place, when he breaths, he should be seen by a doctor.

this. My son has this problem when he gets too excited or runs around to much. I have to hold him tight and calm his breathing. He doesn't have asthma (well has never been diagnosed with it) but he does have chd and its fairly common with him.

If this has never happened to your son before and you notice this, take him in ASAP.

Do you notice this more if your son has a cold?

My son has viral induced asthma. So if he runs around like a maniac, and he has even the slightest bit out a cold, he has trouble, and I have to sit him down, until his breathing calms. He's almost 10 now, so he recognizes it now (most of the time) and will sit himself down.

DS is 7 months old and for the past 3-4 days has had congestion and a cough. Today his cough got so bad that I had to take him into the bathroom and steam him 4 times, Threw up twice from coughing so hard and it seemed like he couldn't catch his breath so I took him to the doctor and turns out that he has croup   so they gave him a single dose oral steroid Funny thing is, besides the coughing he was his normal, happy self.

Yep it definitely is increased when he has a cold, which is more often than not, he has a low immune system so he gets sick pretty often  . Poor little man pretty much lives in a bubble.

My boy wasn't diagnosed with viral induced asthma until 6. Looking back before all that, the signs were there, but they were totally missed. He had croup at 6, 12, 18, and 24 months. Then bronchitis at 3 and 4. And many, many, colds where his cough would linger for weeks, if not months, in between. Since being diagnosed with viral induced asthma, he's been on a low "maintenance" does of an inhaled steroid, and has been a million times better. It was super hard to get him diagnosed though, and took two brutal asthma attacks for it to happen.

He looks fine. But if you notice his stomach so to speak (easiest way to explain it) looks as though it is getting sucked under his ribs then that's a problem. It will be very very noticeable, his skin would be getting sucked underneath his ribs.

Just keep an eye on him.
