changing car seats

posted 13th Nov
How old was your LO when you changed their seats from a rear-facing one that they first begin in to the larger ones that they sit straight up in facing forward? Are there any requirements they need to meet before they can make the switch? Like age, weight (Im aware they have to be a certain weight, just unsure of which it is?), anything else?

most rear facing infant carriers have a limit of around 22 lbs and 29-30 inches. I put my kids into the larger one when they out grew the infant carrier but left them rear facing for a while.

It's recommended to rearface until 40lbs and 40in now. US law is 20lbs AND 1 year before you can flip them.

We plan on rear facing until at least 2 but hopefully 3. I think the bare minimum is 1 year and 20lbs, although I would suggest doing some research on extended rear facing. It is MUCH safer.

The law is 20 pounds AND one year old. Most recommend keeping them rearfacing until 2. You can find cars seats that rear face up to 45 pounds.

I'm keeping my LO rearfacing until she reaches the 45 pounds. I feel it safest for my daughter

I switched my daughter to a convertible carseat that she could rear face in at 6 months because she outgrew her infant seat. I know where I live it's the law not to turn them till they are 1 AND over 20 pounds

I wasnt even aware you could rear face the larger ones. Good to know though. My DD is only 6 months, it just seems so young to me. Shes not there yet though, shes 20lbs, but it getting close to outgrowing the straps. She will outgrow it soon enough, just seems so soon

My son outgrew the weight limit on his at 6 months. My daughter is 7.5 months and is a pound under the weight limit so we'll be buying a convertible soon.

Look into a convertible seat. Even newborns can use them rear facing! They last a long time, too.

Make sure you look for one that says rear facing and forward facing when you go to buy one. My seat rear faces 5-45lbs and then forward faces to 80lbs

Oh okay so I can buy one that will both rear face and than forward face when shes older? That makes me feel a lot better, it really didnt seem right to me that she would have to forward face so soon. I knew something was wrong with that idea lol. Thanks for the help everyone!

Oops it only rear faces to 35 (just looked it up) but no it's a Safety 1st All in one. Rear faces, forward faces, and then you can take the straps out to make it a booster
