Ovulation tests question

posted 13th Nov
Anyone use the ovulation test strips and not get positives on them but have positives on the ones that look like actual pregnancy tests? I have the Answer brand strips that come 20 to a pack and it says to close the container immediately after taking out a strip and to use it immediately. I mean if these strips are getting introduced to air constantly would you think they would be considered less effective if we're supposed to close it immediately. I had a second line yesterday when I tested even though it was light but tonight when I tested I didn't. I'm supposed to ovulate on the 16th. I thought the test line is supposed to get darker closer to ovulation. If the tests aren't wrong then this is the second month I go without ovulating. If that's the case it looks like I'll have to go on Clomid or something. I hate doing it. Doc appointment on the 27th though. just wondering if these tests are really accurate. I've taken them before and I've had nice positives on them after my miscarriage. I had surgery on my right ovary in August and haven't had a positive since.

I think it may be more about the strips being exposed to light not air. But I may be wrong. I have never used them, my SIL did.

they wont be postive until your LH surge.
so dont be sad if they dont slowly get dark.

also i used th answer test ones and never had problems with them being exposed to air. good luck

They don't always progressively get darker closer to ovulation. I had what i thought was an increase then a decrease (none were positives), then a few days later got really dark positives.

The time of day matters and the amount of water you take in too.

I just used to see them get slowly darker before my surge. I'm afraid that either my surgery or me taking metformin for a month and then getting off of it screwed me up. I was actually 11 days late for AF. I was due on the 21st of last month and tested the whole month and never got a positive. I started on the 1st. Or maybe I wont ovulate on the 16th like I'm supposed to. I may have a later ovulation. I think I'm gonna test the whole month until it's time for me to go to the doc. If I don't get a positive by the 27th I know I won't get one. Doc said if I don't get one by the time I go she is gonna let me start then schedule me a CD 21 blood test next month. I hope I start to ovulate on my own but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I did drink like 3 bottles of water today. With me working through the whole day today I didn't get to test at 10am and again at 5pm like I usually do. I might just bring them with me to work and do it there tomorrow. I will drink less water too to see if it makes a difference. I will test up until my doc's appointment to see if maybe I have a late ovulation.

Here is a link with tons of info on OPK's.

Sorry you had problems on Metformin. I took it while TTC my son and my cycles became so regular (before I wouldn't have AF for 3months, they also thought I had PCOS but I ended up with all the symptoms but no cycsts.-My hormones levels were not what they should be). Not sure if it mattered, but I had a large fibroid discovered during pregnancy and removed during my csection. After my son, and breastfeeding, my cycles became pretty regular and I decided not to use metformin on the 2nd TTC, got pregnant right away and then miscarried around 10 weeks.

Your body will return to it's normal soon, I'm sure Metformin didn't mess it up and if it has something to do with you being irregular it will go back to normal soon.

Good luck!

That's just it. Even after my miscarriage in December my cycles picked up like normal. They came on time every month. I even had strong ovulation pains in my ovaries. Then the cyst was discovered in July on my right ovary and my surgery was in August. Since then I got on the metformin and i got off of it because I tested the whole month I was on it to see if I'd ovulate and nothing. This is the second month of nothing. It even made my period late when after my surgery my period showed up on time until I got on it. That is what one doc thought too. That I have PCOS. But the doc who did my surgery, along with the doctor who delivered my son 5 years ago and my miscarriage looks at me like I'm crazy when I mention what the other doc suggests. The other doc never saw my insides or anything. The other two did and they know my levels and stuff. My hormones are normal. The only symptoms you could say I have is being overweight and having trouble losing (which is why I went on the metformin and it didnt help), some facial hair (not too much) and if you wanna count that cyst.

I believe for metformin to help you lose weight you have to be on it longer than a month. I didn't really need to lose a lot on it, but in the 3 months before I became pregnant with my son, I did lose 10 lbs.

How long have you been off of Metformin? Maybe you should have your hormones checked throughout the month to check for ovulation. Maybe you are just missing it with the strips. Doing BBT temp checks could help you too.

I got off the metformin at the beginning of October since it was causing me to have diahrrea a lot. I don't know how I could miss it with the strips. I test 3 times a day instead of the two. It could be my water intake diluting it. I drink a lot of water especially if I'm at work. The doc said if I don't ovulate by next month she will do a CD21 test on me to see if I actually ovulate or not. Next AF is due on the 30th I think. I tested this morning but I've been at work all day so I haven't been able to test. I just got home. I'm waiting a bit before I go to the bathroom so I can have enough time elapsed from the last time I went. It's been about 2 hours since I've gone so it may be enough time. I just might have a ovulation delay and I will ovulate late. Who knows. I'm just gonna test until the 27th when I go to the doctor's.

I never had a problem with my answer tests.. They were expose to air often because I have a two year old who likes to get into my OPKs. Like somebody else mentioned, OPKs don't always get progressively get darker closer to ovulation. For me some cycles there's hardly a test line the day before O, other cycles my OPKs will get darker closer to ovulation.

Not only does Metformin help with weight loss, it can help regulate the hormone levels. If the Metformin is starting to regulate your hormones then you just go off it, it can make your cycles longer because your body is just now adjusting to getting off the Metformin. I know for me, when I stop Metformin in mid cycle, I tend to have longer cycles.

I've been on and off Metformin for 7 years now. After having my daughter in 2010 I lost over 70 pounds, I'm positive the Metformin helped with weight loss and my cycles were pretty much regulated. A lot of people have the diarrhea side effect. It goes away after a while for some, or you can go on extended release Metformin.. Extended release usually helps with lessening the side effects. You also need to watch what you eat on Metformin, then the diarrhea won't be so bad (watch your carbs and fats). Only being on Metformin for a month won't help with losing weight.... It takes a couple of months.

The diahrrea wasn't the only reason I got off of it. I was ovulating before my surgery on my own. The month I started metformin I didn't get a positive for ovulation at all so I don't know if it was because of the met or from my surgery. I got off of it to see if it was the met and if I'd ovulate this month. Maybe the surgery messed me up but I would think it would have regulated by now. I had the surgery in August. I'm supposed to ovulate tomorrow unless my cycles have gotten longer and I'll ovulate later. I don't know but so far nothing. Not even darkening of the line. I will keep testing until the 27th when I go to the doc. I'm testing three times a day just to make sure I don't miss a surge.
