Breastfeeding help please!?

posted 13th Nov
DD is only 3 days old, and this is my first time breastfeeding. Earlier I went to feed her and I noticed that my nipple was bleeding. I just cannot seem to get her to latch right, so I think that's what caused the bleeding. But is it okay to still let her feed on that side even if I am bleeding? I am planning on calling a lactation consultant in the morning to get some help, but I just don't know what to do? She is going to want to eat again in a few hours, and it just hurts so bad on that side, is there anything that I can do?

and I don't have a pump yet, so I don't have that as an option.

Yes you can feed off that side, even if it is bleeding. Lansinoh will help you a lot!

Shove that booby in that babies mouth! Try to get her to open, then just... shove it in.

Smoosh your boob like you would a hamburger so it fits her mouth better and use your pinky to push her chin down more, then shove it in real fast. The deeper the latch the better.

after every feed Id express some milk, rub it into my nips and let them air dry. Breastmilk is gold for everything.

You got to shove her face onto the boob, you should see no nipple or areaola (sp?) when shes eating.

Yes you can still feed her if it's bleeding. As the other mama's have said get some lanolin it will help a lot. My nipples cracked and bled for the first week before I bought lanolin and what a lifesaver!! I also watched a ton of videos on how to latch my daughter properly. This is baby # 3 but my first breastfed. The techniques the other mama's have suggested are the best, squish your breast and shove it in there. It takes practice but you will get the hang of it and the more experienced your LO gets the easier it becomes. Hang in there, I was in your same boat and almost gave up!!!
