But obviously they think they can take someone's life.

I think it is weird that people want to them to be tried as adults but nobody wants to make them into adults if they are responsible non killers. Nobody wants to bring the smoking age down to 14, or let 40 year olds sleep with 14 year olds legally, or let 14 year olds vote, or join the army. But the second thy kill someone they somehow magically have adult brains and should be always tried as adults? That doesn't make any sense. You can't change the definition of a child just to suit your needs or wants.

Yes, it doesn't change the fact that it's murder, and it doesn't change the fact that she's still considered a child. This girl is too young to even be employed at McDonalds... but she should be tried in full court as an adult?

Can't flip a burger... can be sentenced to life in prison.

I'm not saying they ARE adults when they murder only that they should be given harsher sentences

I know it. I think they are saying now that the brain isn't even fully developed until 24-25.

The law says a 14 year old is a kid, you shouldn't just be able to twist it to fit the case.

I think it is bullsmurf that child murderers don't get harsher sentences if charged as a juvenile.

But why? I know that the crime was heinous. It was awful, and it makes me sick. But this girl is still a kid herself. Why should we treat her as an adult now that she has made a mistake, but we never gave her the rights of an adult beforehand?

I don't think she even thought in terms of getting caught or laws. Would she still kill the baby if she saw a better way out of it? I didn't read the news story but this sounds like a sad situation all around.

17 yr olds are allowed to join the military and at 18 are allowed to be deployed to fight and die for their country but still cannot drink a beer. Is that right?? I think not, but there are alot of things in America that don't make sense.

But they are juveniles. You can call a tomato a potato all you want, but it's still a tomato.

She personally needs help if she did that to her baby not prison but I think depending on the situation it really depends .....my cousins "killer" was tried as an adult it was a dui and the killer is the driver he should have got help for his drinking and probation for his theft of the vehicle not the 5 yrs in prison someone who killed someone while stealing beer or alcohol deserves prison

I don't think that just because someone is 14 they should only be given a sentence until thy are 18 or 21 and considered an adult. I don't however think it should just be lock them up and throw away the key. I think it should be a more case by case thing and the kid locked up should be evaluated continuously over time before it is decided whether they get out when they are an adult or if they need to stay locked up. Idk if that made sense I'm terrible at transforming my thoughts from my brain to actual words lol.
