Went to the gynecologist yesterday and found out...

posted 13th Nov
I have herpes.

Smurf.

About a week ago I noticed something funny was going on down there. I thought I just had a yeast infection or something, but then it got worse. The whole left side of my inner labia was one big open sore that hurt like hell and would randomly bleed. Going to the bathroom was excruciatingly painful. So I went to the gynecologist yesterday and she said it looked like genital herpes. She took a scraping of the lesion (which hurt like smurfing hell btw) to get tested, but she said she's almost 100% positive that it's herpes.

I feel so disgusting. People say that unfortunately STDs are pretty common these days, but this wasn't supposed to happen to me. I'm a 26 year old single mom. I'd like to get married and have more children some day, but now, I'm going to have to explain to every potential boyfriend/sexual partner that I have a disease. It's embarrassing and I'm pissed at myself for letting this happen.

I had to go to the pharmacy to get my medication and I kept wondering if people could tell. What were the people working there going to think, seeing me pick up my herpes medication? Gross. Thank f'n jesus I have insurance through work, because the tiny ass tube of cream alone was over $300.

I'm just kinda bummed and needed to vent  .

I hope so.

I haven't even had sex since last December, so almost a year ago. Why the hell is this happening now? Ugh.

Unfortunately it is more common, because alot of people that "have it" are just carriers and don't have symptoms. : / So they don't even know they're spreading it! Hopefully your flare up calms down soon, and any man that is gonna be worth a marriage will probably be able to be mature enough to look past something like this! Hope your day gets better : )

I feel horrible because I have no idea when I got it... It's been almost a year since I last had sex and I've never had any kind of symptoms whatsoever. So who knows how long I've had it and who I've spread it to without knowing.

Let the pharmacy people think what they want. It's not their business and I cannot even tell you how many people probably go in for the same thing.

Keep up on your health. Use the cream as they prescribed it, and you will probably reduce your symptoms tremendously. From what I understand (as a nurse) a lot of people get it so controlled that they'll have just a few outbreaks a year.

I know this might sound incredibly ignorant, but maybe you could find like herpes-support groups or something- as far as meeting someone/having children in the future, you never know.

*hugs* I am sorry you are having to go through this.   In time, I am sure you will find the right man for you that will not care about it.

If you're still on speaking terms with your last partners it would be nice to give them a courtesy call and maybe one will call you back and let you know if he's positive. If not they can go get checked & know if they've gotten it. This is your first outbreak? I thought with females it normally showed up faster...

It so unfortunate that STDs are so common. But most people dont take care of themselves when they have it & infect others without even caring. I know someone who has them & sleeps around. It has definitely put a fear in me, although Ive been in a relationship for 10 years I wonder how I would ever trust someone, after knowing people who have things & just dont say anything!

Yeah I thought about giving him a heads up, but I'm so embarrassed... I know that sounds selfish, but... I'm so mortified thinking about it. Yes, we're still on speaking terms.

And yes, this is my first outbreak. In the pamphlet my doctor gave me, it said that symptoms usually show up within days of being infected? Or something like that. But I've never had any kind of symptoms like this before.

I'm going to the doc on thursday for some issues, and I'm terrified I have it too. DH and I are both clean, but my entire family on my dad's side has cold sores all the time, so I could have gotten it from them. DH said if it is something like that, oh well. There are some amazing guys out there. Don't give up, and just practice safe sex. Condoms all the way until you find that perfect guy who won't care <3

Herpes scares the smurf out of me   Cause you can't really prevent it with condoms like most stds if there is an outbreak. I decided to force my perspective partners to go with me to get tested before we had sex cause they scare me so bad lol

I ended up getting herps anyways! The mouth variety, but still, I was so pissed! Unfortunately it could not be prevented..my daughter got it from a kid at the apparently smurffy daycare she was in and brought it home   She developed the sore a few days later and I had one the next day! I refuse to leave the house when I have an outbreak now   It's mortifying. I understand your frustration and anger at the situation

I hope you heal soon, I'm told the first one is usually the worse if it's any consolation your next one might not be as bad and could be few and far between. My step dad had it, my mom was with him with 15 years and somehow never got it, so it is possible to stay safe and avoid spreading it to partners so if they know that, things should be easy to talk over with them.
