No microwave

Is it okay to leave butter on the counter to soften enough for cookies? I always thought that was a no-no.  

It's how I've always done it!

I'm super late bc I just saw this. I keep a tub of butter in the fridge and a stick on a plate out of the fridge. If you're iffy about leaving it out, just set it in some warm water in the sink for 2-3 minutes and it will be super soft
