Take a bow! Very, very, very nicely said, without being judgemental.

Then you should have said FOR YOU then, huh? But you didn't. You were making sweeping statements about what everyone else should do in their own relationships.

I don't give a smurf if you follow the Bible. Just don't sit there and tell me I should only have sex with who you say I should.

The first line of the OP says this "What do you think of them ?" I answered what I thought of them. It's my opinion. It wasn't my intention embark on a long-winded explanation of moral relativism. I simply stated my abbreviated opinion. I never told anyone what they should or shouldn't think/do. I just said my opinion, which is what the OP asked for. No one has to agree with me. I didn't say anyone was bad for doing it.

You said "Biblically speaking, YOU'RE supposed to do sexual things strictly with a spouse. .... I have a very traditional and conservative view of whom YOU'RE supposed to have sex with. "

Talk about yourself. Not everyone else.

I haven't, wouldn't, and never will for all the reasons you listed. I feel they are wrong!

Talk about splitting hairs. The Bible states that's what people are supposed to do. It isn't written to Erica (my name). It's written in general terms, and I was speaking in general terms. Regardless, I wasn't talking about you or anyone in particular. I was simply trying to convey what it says and why I believe the way I do.

Whether youre Christian, Atheist, agnostic or some other type of religion the bible contains some pretty universal concepts of morality and basic rules of governance. I think people should attempt to stand for these ideals regardless of religious beliefs because they do prevent future woes.

People who have an excess of partners and engage in risqué acts such as threesomes, gang bangs, and affairs all have a higher chance of contracting stds than strictly monagomous people's.

If you have an issue with the bible, whatever, but to attack common sense simply because someone mentions the bible is idiotic.

It contains SOME universal concepts, and some that aren't. It contains admonishment to gay sex, which isn't a "universal concept" and also contains things like offering a virgin daughter to men in place of a "guest" and having that be a GOOD thing. That isn't considered moral to most people.

Just because some ideas on universal does not mean they all are.

Additionally, while obviously if EVERY person were monogamous the majority of STD's would be halted (those only transmitted that way), that doesn't make it a moral issue. It makes it a health issue. I wash my hands to avoid transmission of illnesses not because it is immoral not to, but because I don't want to get sick. There are a lot of things that increase various risk factors, but that doesn't make them moral issues, and it surely doesn't validate a religion that turns them into moral issues.

I don't need an old book to tell me I don't want to be in a gang bang.

And when you are stating your opinion on your sex life - keep it to YOUR sex life.

Yeah...please show me your proof of that statistic.

Monogamy isn't "common sense" nor a universal concept., especially since I worship a goddess who blesses multiple sexual partners. But you don't see me calling you immoral for sticking with one man....

Not only is the bible a document on morality, it's also a historical document. So yes, there are many interesting and perverse stories on its pages.

We have done many things throughout history such as genocide, killing virgins, killing newborns. The ideas behind these stories, nonetheless are still based on common moral principals.

Also, if you don't think your sexuality has anything to do with your concepts of morality, then perhaps you don't understand what morality is.

Further- the bible also contains many common sense health guidelines and various other concepts that are meant to aid in living a fulfilling, happy and healthy life.

You may not need a bible to assist you in forging your own sexual path, but to dog on someone who mentions the word bible in conjunction with their personal beliefs on sexuality is ignorant.

And whoever mentioned statistics on what I'm assuming was stds and monogamy, look it up yourself. I'm not here to do your homework. If you've got an argument, let it have reason and justification rather than anger and dissent when you don't know the statistics yourself.
