re: Normal Behavior for a Toddler?

posted 13th Nov
My daughter was like that, and still sort of is. She is almost 4 and still has trouble expressing when she gets frustrated or overwhelmed. I found it best to just ignore the little ones (that stopped them rather quickly) and if she is doing something that could harm her or your property put her in a safe spot to finish her tantrum then talk to her about it later. Use small phrases for now, like "Its ok to be upset, next time say help" and leave it at that. Later you can be more specific and talk about what happened before the tantrum.

I actually haven't tried ignoring it. I'm afraid that it will make things worse? I don't know haha. I guess it's worth a shot

Acknowledged that it happened later, but at the time don't "reward" the behavior by giving her attention. I was skeptical at first, but it really seemed to help with the small ones.

Our kids are alike in a lot of ways! Peyton does this too. I was hoping it was just a phase. He gets frustrated very easily and I don't know how to tell him that it's okay and show him how to vent his frustration in other ways.

So far today I've ignored it, seems to be working because she'll throw her fit then come to me and I've comfort her then she's fine!

I talked to his doctor about it today and she said it's very normal. They are just going through the fight/angry stage.

Maybe it's better to simplify. My son had a playroom the size of a preschool classroom and finally the other day we took about 3/4 of it and put it in the attic and only left a small amount and he does so much better in his playroom now. Maybe keep the large amount of toys in your closet for awhile and see if it helps. It's much easier for kids to focus on 1-2 toys than 20.
