Pretty much.

And frankly, I could not possibly care less if they're talking about me in their language.

There is no official language in the U.S. So, we should cater to them while offering free ESL classes.

I guess when i go get a pedicure i expect a good pedicure lol...people forget that what is considered rude over here isn't necessarily rude in their home country..My husband family is late to everything..i mean everything as are most if people from his culture but it's not meant to be rude.. they just don't have the same sense of time as we do here if that makes sense..here time is money..to them time is just that..time and there's no need to rush anywhere or stress about specific start times...we might think them speaking in their language as rude but it might not be too them...different cultures have different business etiquette..i think most people are culturally insensitive

I understand. You're talking about nails though. I'm talking about businesses such as doctor's, dentist, car dealerships, etc. When people are raised here or if they ahve been here since they were children, then this is their culture, and they know better. The two Hispanic women in the doctors office who are speaking and laughing in spanish in front of patients who speak perfect English, have been here long enough to adapt to our social norms in the United States. It has nothing to do with culture. You're at a business... act business like, or go find another job where you can gab all day with your friends. That is not the time or the place.

I think they should learn some English before they get here and if they can't they should really put effort towards learning as much as they can over time. When I go to a car dealership I want someone who speaks English so that I can understand them....I am not learning another language just b/c that is what they speak.

I do know that there is no "Official Language" here....But I grew up in America and we spoke English and schools speak English...not once EVER was I told I needed to learn another language (expect if you wanted too in high school) b/c one day when I got older I would need to know another language b/c ppl that come here from other countries surround us and haven't learned English.

In Texas high school's they only offer Spanish, and you must take Spanish for two years to graduate. I think that's bullsmurf we should be able to learn what language we want to. I wanted to learn French, the school told me I would have to teach my self the language and pay 800$.   My 10-11th year of high school they hired a science teacher from France he knew 100% French but because he wasn't licensed to teach it he couldn't, but he did teach us some words.

I dont know why but sometimes i think its rude when people talk in a different language in front of me, because who knows if they are talking about you or what they are even saying. If i were to move to another country i would have to learn their language, most likely im not going to get by just by trying to speak my language.

After time though, you are going to pick up their language though. I dont understand how if someone is here for 5 years, they cant speak enough to order a sandwich in English?

Thats how i feel, especially if someone has been here for years...they should be speaking English. I mean why move here and not expect to have to speak in our language so we can understand?

I live in Houston...we aren't required to take Spanish. They have French and Latin too. I think they offer more but I'm not sure what they are.

I disagree..My husband's family is mostly legal and his siblings were born here..but they live in a part of town that caters to their culture...speaks their language..his mom has forgotten most of the English she has learned and she's lived here since she was 20..if anything it's the business owners fault..they allow unprofessional behavior..i don't think talking to another co-worker in. Another language in itself is rude or disrespectful

Un true..I've lived here my whole life and many bbd if . My friend took another language..you need two years of a foreign language to graduate..not just Spanish..Don't day it's like that in Texas just because that was your experience
